I've had problems with my CPU overheating. While playing games, sometimes the computer will just shut down. Also when I play music or videos the audio becomes distorted if I've had my laptop on for a while (usually fixed with a restart).
I have some Arctic Silver Ceramique and was wondering if that would be acceptable to use on the CPU. It seems like ICD7 is the preferred TIM to use, but since I already have the Ceramique I was just going to use it.
Thanks in advance![]()

It will work on the CPU but it might not work well on the North Bridge.
-
you could copper shim the north bridge with the ceramique TIM. Sandwich the shim between 2 layers of ceramique and place it between the NB chipset and heatsink.
that's what i did (but used AS5 instead). works great.
copper shim should ideally be a 11mm x 11mm x 0.9mm. -
This might sound stupid, but where do I buy a copper shim?
-
Nevermind. I think I found it.

Do I need to use a copper shim on the CPU as well?
-
no do not copper shim your CPU. Just do it for the northbridge chipset if you cant get a hold of ICD7 (the thickness of ICD7 does away with the need for a copper shim to fill in the air space between chipset and heatsink).

nuilum have you cleaned up fan yet? If not try cleaning and blow dust from vent.
