Can't figure out how to use the search feature on these forums >.<

First thing I did when I brought home my first p-6860 yesterday was to do the gateway recovery center discs as warned to do so in the lounge thread. As I did the first laptop in hung on 99 percent for a long period of time (wasn't keeping track) then finally moved to 100 percent, but hanged again. Clicked the stop button after running out of patience and took a look at the disc to see several different shades of rings. This DVD was unreadable and showed as a blank disc when put into several computers.

The second attempt was "successful" according to the program, but I later found out that that DVD was also indeed "blank" even though that one had a solid light colored ring that in my experience showed a good burn. I returned that laptop because it had other problems including random freeze-ups and wireless internet problems. :(

After a long battle with customer service (apparently online orders cannot be exchanged, but have to be returned and you have to buy another laptop which hurt my wallet considering the first laptops charge-back won’t go through till next week. ) I got a pre-optimized 6860 by geek squad because apparently they couldn't find the non-optimized one. I go home and am having the same problems with this optical drive.

No matter if I use the gateway center to burn the DVD, or use other software to burn the ISO, the DVDs come out the same way. Anyone else get these problems?

I am using Memorex DVD+Rs that I have always been using for the previous year that have given me no problems before. The CD burning seems to work fine but I cannot burn any type of data on DVDs. Both the BIOS and the Device Manager show an "Optiaric DVD RW AD-7563A ATA Device" and uninstalling the device did nothing. This is not a slot loading burner.

    Ideas??

Both the above DVD Identifier and InfoTool have told me the same things about the drive. I did burn with MagicISO before and ended up with the same result. They always say the burn was a success but when you try to read the disc they show up blank (On three different computers). The iso is fine for anyone that is wondering, and I will try to get my hands on a different type of disc tomorrow to see if this drive just doesn't like memorex. Anyone else have problems with memorex on their 6860s? Seems like it might be the likely culprit now that I think about it since this was on two laptops (although the other previous laptop didn't read my Vista Ultimate DVD). Other ideas?

Sorry, I won't let Memorex get any where near any of my machines. I would suggest Verbatim.

I'm not sure how long it took, I'd say 6-9 Guitar hero songs? :p

As to the others, I will go to Office Depot tomorrow after work and see if I can get my hands on some better DVDs. I'll report back after a couple of runs and tell you how it goes.

Edit: Well I took a closer look at the disc's again on another computer and when I loaded up Magic ISO I could see the files on the disc and low and behold I could see them in windows explorer as well. Not sure what the whole dealio is, but hopefully I can get a DVD that my laptop can read so I can install Ultimate and load up my copy of bioshock and get gamming

I use Roxio or bundled Power2Go for Data. If your into ISO's I suggest the best, free, from Lightning UK; Imgburn. Same guy who wrote DVDecripter before he was shut down.

FWIW your Optiaric DVD RW AD-7563A is made by Sony/NEC, a very good drive.
