Any news on when and if the new retail model will be available with Best Buy Canada?

Nope, no word yet. I popped in to my local store today and they did not know what I was talking about. This was the same place I bought my 6831fx.

When I bought this 6831 in Jan. The sales guy walked up to me and I said, 'I'll take one of these.' He said, 'It's a Gateway, are you sure?' So I asked him if he had read the spec sheet. He looked it over and freaked out. He thought the notebook was priced wrong!

Anyways, my point is scan over the cage at your store and if you see one grab it - you might not be able to trust your sales rep. When I got mine it still wasn't listed on the website, they only received two and I got the one that was not on display. This time they'll probably have more, but you never know.

So get them to check and double check when you pop in or call your store.

For me, it was lewdvig's review that enticed me to buy this notebook that same day he posted the review. It is and still is best buck for the value and performance.

First Bestbuy I called had few in stock and the geeksquads also questioned me why I am buying a 'Gateway' for this much price for. After I read them the specs, they still had no idea. Oh well, Canadian geeks for you there.

Hey Peter, I just bought an X7900 2.8 Ghz (Merom) for $400 CDN shipped on eBay from this guy: http://search.ebay.ca/_W0QQsassZembrave

    Almost 1000 + feedback.

The 6831fx lets you run it at 3.0 (within the BIOS)

I got my 6831 after reading the review too.

But seriously, I think these few 6831's that shipped to Canada were just a mistake. Gateway's online shop has no intention in shipping to Canada, so naturally, they have no need to sell these 6831's to get their name out in Canada.

I highly doubt they'll ship any 6831/6860's anymore to Canada.

I agree, has anyone been watching the BB site in Canada? Theres only one gateway laptop for sale now. When i got my 6831 a few months ago they had about 7-8 different gateway laptops for sale.

Maybe gateway just dont wanna sell in Canada!

... or maybe they are going to sell direct. Or maybe BB.ca is just waiting for the big summer refresh. Who knows.

No, Gateway has no intention to sell directly to Canada. They will only sell computers in Canada through their dealers (BB, Futureshop, Costco). When I contacted them about buying one of the other FX notebooks when I couldn't find a 6831, I was told that they couldn't/wouldn't help me. So its probably unlikely that anyone in Canada will get a 6860 unless they make a trip to the States.

You're missing the point. The only reason for them to sell 6831/6860 is to get the P-series' name out. The probly generate marginal, if any, profit from selling these direct.

What use are they in Canada if they don't ship to Canada from their online store?
