    Hey everyone

Started having major problems with my 6860 this morning. Woke up to a black screen and was forced to hard reset it as it was not responding. Now boot up takes 10+ minutes, and I get frequent BSODs. The computer is unusably slow. If I type in the password box it takes about 20 seconds before the letters actually appear. Opening the task manager takes about a minute, etc. It was functioning perfect just last night. I reseated the ram and cpu and it made no difference.

The symptoms sound like HDD failure but the drive in there is relatively new so I would be surprised if this was the issue. I also experienced none of the typical symptoms of an impending HDD failure.

I've got to get this diagnosed as I need the computer for work, so any help is really appreciated.

    Thanks!

I had similar problems once. It was the hard drive. Boot in safe mode and backup all of your important data as soon as possible.

However it could be almost anything. From a virus problem to a part failing.

The BSOD error messages could give a clue.

Yeah, I just booted into Ubuntu from a USB stick and it's running perfectly. HDD it is, I guess. Hope I can get all my info off... :\

make sure you buy an extra HD and you wont have to
worry about recovering the data .
