Has anyone replaced their 7200mah 9-cell battery? Mine only holds charge for about 5 minutes, so I purchased an aftermarket non-Gateway battery. It looks and fits right, but the charge indicator light goes instantly RED (not purple, like when charging) when the battery in installed and the computer won't power-up. While I can run the lappy with the charger connected and the new battery installed, the LED stays RED.

Do I need a BIOS upgrade to recognize non-Gateway batteries? Any other suggestions? The fact that the LED goes RED as soon as the battery is installed, even without powering-on, makes me think the battery may be "bad" but it must have some charge to even light the LED. If it were just dead cells, the charging indicator should do SOMETHING other than just RED, right?

The battery was purchased new (possible refurb, but the texture of the molded plastic seems different).

    Noticed additional "symptoms"

The charging icon in the task-bar indicates "charging", but the battery soon has an "X" over it. Later, I get a "no battery found" notice when hovering over the icon.

If I put the computer in "standby" while connected to the brick, I can disconnect and bring it back from standby using the new battery, but the machine shuts-down shortly thereafter. Cant tell if it's because the battery has no charge or because the computer doesn't "see" the battery.

Has this been addressed before? I searched, but I didn't find anything that I thought was directly related to a new after-market battery.

Probably need another battery. Looks like the replacement is dead too.
