I was wondering if any one knows if the p6860 will get the 100 dollar price drop and free game offer again because i am getting it next week and hoping to save some money on it. thanks
-
The free game offer is a joke since they still charge you for it and then adjust your laptop and upgrade your driver for another 50 bucks which you get back so you are still paying for it. But the 100 dollar saving is pretty good. I actually missed out on the last sale and I just went to Best Buy and talked to a manager in the computer section and he gave me the sale price. He tried to sell me the additional warranty and some other software but I said no thanks and he still gave me the discounted price.
-
i heard you dont need to pay for the extra service for the free game if you order online or just ask them
-
When I bought mine there was no deal but after a week I saw a deal online . I didn't pay for the game or this geek squad joke .. they offered the game deal and $50.00 off so I went to BB and asked them for the price match so they gave me the $50.00 off but when I asked about the game the girl told me there is nothing like this!! So I told her check your web site ... After she did that she told me maybe it's just online so I told her show me anything saying that .She tried hard to don't give me this game but in the end she said I will have to ask my manager and after a while I found her coming back saying you can go and pick a game now!!!
My advise is to don't give up and keep trying until you get it. -
I tried, and tried, and still could not get the free game without the geeksquad part added.
-
What does the geek squad even do?
-
I don't know about the 6860, but i had no problem getting the free game w/ no hassles for my 6831 online. I added, the laptop, added the game, checked out, and was set.

I could have got it for free online, but I bought it at the store.
-
In other words pretty much nothing -
Bestbuy.com has it listed for $1099 now.

Another new poster with a P-6831FX.
How did I do $799.00 new at Best Buy.
-
only if u find a way to get the display laptop i think u can get it for the price im guessin they would only sell it if its outta stock
-
Hmmm... seems Gateway no longer has the P-6860FX, M-6850FX, or M-6851 on the site any more....(through normal menus navigation).
Maybe that is why the price drop at BB?
Although they do list an M-6864FX as a BB product, I assume replacing the M-6850FX. M-6864FX is T5750/4GB/200GB M-6850FX has T5550/3GB/320GB.

Wow, that is $150 bucks less than I bought it for about 3 weeks ago. I wonder if they have a 30 day price guarantee? If so I am going back for a refund.
-
Not that I know of. I know they have a 14 day price adjustment policy, but that's about as long as it goes. I want to get one this week but it doesn't look like I'll have the funds in time before they sell out
. I can only hope they get some more which is doesn't look like they will.

Same here - I purchased for $1249 exactly 24 days ago.
I went back to BB today attempting to get the extended warranty, but I didnt buy it within the 14 day period so the arrogant little sales rep said she couldnt help me. Because if she tried to sell it to me, she would have to call it in to corporate and they would say no. So I went and looked at the prices to see if it was cheaper - sure enough $1099. And no price match because that too is 14 day period I just found out.
So I asked to speak to a store manager. Explained to her that although I didnt meet the 14 day period for the warranty, I was in fact told that I could get a price match guarantee within 30 days by the associate in Laptops. I also explained to her that I felt like I was duped twice because not only was I not eligible to protect my investment with the warranty, I was miss-quoted on the price match guarantee.
SO ... the store manager was SUPER nice and said she would meet me halfway with a $50 gift card AND also sell me the extended warranty. I applied the gift card to the warranty and was out the door with a smile. Lesson? Talk to a store manager, be sincere about your intentions and they can approve just about anything before 30 days!! The other idiots behind the cust service counter are useless. -
See, this is how you can tell if someone's worked retail. Realize that BB just hauled in $100 of pure margin from the extended warranty - about $100 more than they made on the computer.
So let's tally this up:
At $1249, BB made about $0.00. You - Laptop, BB - 0
You go back and try to get the price match, BB gives you half in the form of a gift card. You - Laptop +$50, BB - -$50
You use that on an extended warranty. You - Laptop, BB - +$50
In order to actually have the warranty work, manager does a work-around with the system in the form of a return/rebuy. However, what you don't know is that BB gets a kickback from the manufacturer when prices fall under cost. By reselling the laptop at the better price, BB gets an extra $100 from Gateway. Normally, this saving is passed to the customer (customer gets laptop at $1099). So here, the tally gets a little confusing:
You - Laptop at $1249 with extended warranty at $50 off. Best Buy - $100 from kickback, $150 from selling laptop at higher price, $50 from selling extended warranty.
Now you might want to rethink which side of the counter the idiot is standing. -
Went searching, and the 3rd Best Buy I went to had one left that wasn't "optimized". Of course, they tried to sell me on the "optimized" one, but I politely told them I could do it better, quicker, cheaper, and more efficiently than the Geek Squad. Ended up paying $1196 I believe after taxes.
-
Anyway, it doesnt matter who got the better deal, BB or the customer, because its not a competition between them two. What matters is if the customer gets(or feels like he got) a good deal, i.e. is satisfied.
Buying the extended warranty was not much of a favor really(but if you want to count that as a plus, go ahead it doesnt matter), but the thing to walk away form here is that the sales manager was nice enough to give the guy 50 dollar rebate instead of just blowing him off and saying no out right.
Who cares if BB earned the extra cash, the customer still saved 50 bucks that he would not have otherwise. So in the end, both BB and the customer are happy. Dont think of it as a competition between the store and the consumer to see who gets the better deal because frankly, no consumer cares. All consumers care about is if they got a good deal, and here props to the sales manager for satisfying another customer. I agree with dotcombust...the only idiots in this scenario were the sales rep, altho i dont blame then much because they dont really have the power to do what the manager does.
In the end dotcombust and BB are both better off then they were before the whole rebate and warranty issue. -
I went to Best Buys and tried to get a refund of the difference from when I bought it 3 weeks ago and they just told me that on laptops it is a 14 day pricematch only and I am SOL. I did ask to speak to a manager but he politly told me the same thing and quotted the store policy to me in detail and told me that they hardly make money on those laptops and that the sale price is way under cost. I told him that's BS and ask him why would any store sell things that they don't make some sort of money on. That just doesn't make sense. I walked out and probably wont go back to that store again.
Maybe I will try another Best Buys and see what they tell me. -
Go work retail for 2 weeks, then you won't make these kind of statements.
-
Gotta agree with Lithus. I have a good friend who was a manager at Fry's. He told me many times that on laptops and TV's, they didn't make much money, hence why the sold so many accessories.
-
So chill and be my guest to pay retail and abide by all the rules and policies made by man.
-
Lithus, If you are the little girl at best buy I called an idiot, my apologies.
Anyone in customer service who exhibits a bad attitude or zero compassion for a customer complaint is an idiot. Inconsistencies in return policies and customer service attitudes are what give retailers a bad name IMO. Doesn't matter if you're selling laptops or some other form of service.
And I never said to try to decieve the best buy customer svc department NOR circumvent any policies. I was upfront with them and admitted that I missed out on the warranty and was misquoted on the price match guarantee. With a smile, I RESPECTFULLY expressed my dissatisfaction that other retailers offer 30 to 60 days on various electronics and that they do not. So the store manager first offered me the gift card. I happliy accepted and told her that was above and beyond what I expected from Best Buy. She then said I could apply it towards the warranty which is why I went to the store in the first place. (I am using this laptop as a desktop replacement so I didn't mind buying additional protection.)
Asking for a store manager is not the be-all end-all solution to anyone's problem. But it doesn't hurt to ask. WE are the customers and I feel as though the manager accommodated my needs as a customer. I dont give a rats ass how much money they made off me or the warranty. I got what I wanted after speaking to a store manager and that was my point.
Thank you Best Buy and thank you other forum members for seeing my point.
