P-6860FX Still kicking lol

I know it's an old lappy now, but it's still chugging away just fine. I had to bring it out of the closet just in case I needed it to test a hdd from our Sammy 7.

I fiddled around with it, updated everything, and played a little Diablo 3 on it lol. Still does really well. Proud of this little beastie.

Anyone else still using theirs?

 

And I thought my P-7811FX was old! Kudos to you for keeping that laptop going.

 

I bought mine 8/9 years ago. Still playing a lot of oldies, but sometimes also try newer games based on DX9/10. 7805u still kicks. OCed of course. I am not thinking about new machine because have work/children and have no time for playing for the whole days.

 

Hey I knOw this is super old. Sorry to ressurect an old thread. I dug mine out and it boots but it's super slow. I want to have my daughter play Minecraft with it. It's so laggy, it's unplayable. I'm thinking of doing a reformat and clean install. Would it be worth it to put a small ssd in it you think?

 

A basic SSD, sure, just make sure you get the right kind of drive (SATA 2.5-inch, I'd think). Starting with a clean install is a good idea with an older machine.

I made an account just so I could I comment on this thread. (Even though it is old). Haha

I use my P-6860fx daily, with the original battery. Actually, I am typing this post on it.
It is very quick still for it's age. However I have helped some with that.
It is running an X9000 CPU, 6gb RAM, a SSD, and Windows 7. (The original HDD is set up with the original Vista on it, so I can still boot to it if needed). Cost me around $160 to upgrade it.

I hate to say it though, I have been looking at newer stuff lately. Mainly because of size and battery life. My new job has me taking my laptop with me to and from work and when I go out of town. Plus I often have to get in and out of cars with it to scan codes, read ECUs, etc.
The FX just is...well very large for this and makes it hard.

But with looking at new stuff I find myself wondering two things...
Will the new one last another 10 years? (I have a feeling the answer is no and everything I want is not cheap).
What do I do with the FX. While it is old and most people think it is outdated, it works great.

 

Welp, 10.5 years later, and the battery no longer holds a charge more than a few minutes lol. Not bad. Ordered a new battery. This thing has had a pretty good run. No plans to retire it right now. Son is using it in college. It's a best to lug around campus though lol.

 

I still use my 7805 from time to time, mainly for CAD when I don't need horsepower but need the screen size/resolution. My macbook trounces this machine but it's screen size and controls aren't real CAD friendly. Anyone running Win 10 with a fully working track pad? I lost scroll after upgrading and I've tried any number of google how to's for similar machines with no luck getting it working again. I just reformatted this thing after upgrading to a newer faster set of hand-me-down SSDs in RAID so I might try rolling back to the Win 7 X64 drivers that are on the gateway site and mess around a bit to see if I can get anywhere with it.
