    anyone know if the Gateway P-6860FX is available in Canada or is it a US thing only? anyone know why?

    US only, as of right now. Maybe Gateway doesn't think there's as much of a market for a cheap but powerful gaming PC in Canada as there is in the states.

    You could try to contact Gateway and see if they have future plans up North.

    I would suggest waiting. There's likely to be an influx of new laptops coming in the near future.

    is that in reference to the possibility of new Centrino 2 (Montevina) laptops, or in general, a new season of laptops? (sorry, i'm new to all this!)

    Centrino 2 + recent AMD developments are likely to result in a release of new models by manufacturers.

    Generally, it is best to wait for as long as you can before making your purchase.

    so even if I call bestbuy to order on the phone they will refuse to ship it to Canada?

    They did for me, and went and ordered off ebay. I think there are still some spare 6831's/6860's floating around on ebay.ca But the guy I bought from finally ran out after selling 40 of them. :(
