K, just got GF's son's P-6860FX and opted for the Vista64 install to use the full 4gb of ram in it.

Now, first I have 2 problems with drivers. I downloaded the Vista 64 drivers from Gateway's site but the modem driver causes a BSOD and the Synaptics driver just won't install the touchpad part of the driver -.-. The touchpad driver is the one I'm more concerned about as I'd like the driver/program to be able to disable the touchpad for gaming ( nothing better than thumbing the touchpad in CoD4 and giving away your position : )

And as far as the question part, is there any program to Oc the CPU in this thing without an eXtreme chip? Was thinking about clockgen but not sure if it'll work.

Well, I downloaded new drivers for x64 from the synaptics website. As far as the OC, I wouldn't know. I'm running an X9000

I also have Vista64 on my P6860-FX. The modem driver on Gateway's web site did not work on my computer. I had to use the driver provided on the apps/driver disk that you have to use the GWRC program to create. In fact, the driver from the apps/driver recovery disk is actually newer than the one available on their website.

you have to make your own driver/app backup disk before reinstalling windows.

If you haven't wiped the recovery partition yet, you should still be able to make the disk. The recovery partition would be the first partition on the HDD, which if you try to view it in explorer will tell you that it's protected.

The normal way to make the disk is to run the create backup disk option from the Gateway recovery center program which you should be able to find in the menu system. If you can't run that program, but still have the partition, you should still be able to access the raw files with an iso file viewer.
