Hi. I'm considering the P-6860FX but am worried about the processor. How hard would it be to swap it for something better?

It's easy, you can get at it through the back panel.

I just noticed on the bestbuy website it says it has a 1440 x 900 resolution. Is that the highest it'll go?

Yes, thats the native resolution. LCDs have a native resolution which means they look best in that resolution and that is the maximum as well that they support. If it has a 1440x900 LCD that literally means that inside the LCD panel there are 1440 pixels horizontally and 900 pixels vertically.

if you'll browse around you'll find many guys who upgraded their cpu / lcd / both

    it is actually tooooooooooooo easy.
but you might want to look at the .gateway p-173xl (t8300 1920x1200)

The stock CPU is not that bad, contrary to what most believe. It is still quite capable of handling anything thrown at it, though a T8300/9300 would be better.

just my thoughts, but the processor does just. for comparison, my desktop has a quad core 2.4 and although i can tell some games load a bit slower on the laptop, it does not bother me to wait another 15 seconds (jusy enough time to reach for another beer) and as far as everything else is concerned, my normal cpu activities do not seem to be very slow at all. i looked at it this way. spend as little as needed now and try it out, if i felt that i had to, then i could easily upgrade the cpu when i wanted.

That's a good idea, but if you're gonna spend that much, might as well get a Sager.
