I am praying to god someone has a real answer to this issue. I have the p-6860FX and it has been doing the same exact thing as other P series laptops in other threads(shutting down unexpectedly/rebooting without any type of warning) and it is really getting to me. I have contacted Gateway on this matter repeatedly and they set me up for a repairs each time. Well now it's months later, I'm still having the same problem, and (yeah this is sad) now I am sending it in for the (ready for this one) 4th time. I have argued with them for literally hours on the phone, and they won't replace it. The real sad part is that it was brand new (16 days no return policy to "BEST BUY" lol). I am at witts end, and have no hair left to pull out over this matter. If there are other people with this same laptop and having the same issue please let me know. PLEASE HELP

Sorry, I forgot to mention one more thing. Gateways customer sevice is so professional about their service that they sent me back my "brand new" laptop back the second time with a huge scratch on the top like it didn't even matter to them at all. When I mentioned it to customer service they said they would fix it (the third time they received it) and they sent it back to me "wiped down" (only removed fingerprints). Gateway Customer Service is very unprofessional and has no regard to it's customers.

erm, i guess you can try the online chat on the gateway website. b4 the chat they tell you their tag number so you know who's responsible if something goes wrong. i just sent in mine a couple of days ago and i'm having my fingers crossed.

I had the SAME problem and was about to just get rid of this thing but a last ditch effort I sprayed a can of compressed air into the GPU in/out vents and my laptop has run MUCH cooler. Visually I did not see any dust but with the compressed air a ton came out I was very surprised since I take very good care of this laptop but i am guessing it accumulates inside very easily.

i still have no idea where to spray the air in, is it where air comes out when the the fan is working?

If your using the notebook (looking at it) its gonna be the vent on the left side (there will be 2 USB ports right next to it. Then the vent on the bottom left (There is a little sticker next to it, "The lamps in this display contain...xxxx" Those are the vents you need to hit with compressed air.
-Mike -
so just blow the air into those vents? cuz i'm worried that the dusts will be blown into the internal parts of the laptop and cause malfunction

oh, i see what you saying now, thx

Other posters say a hair dryer, SET TO COOL, works just a well as canned air, and it's free if you already have the hair dryer. =)

Thanks Mike (my name is also Mike...Maybe these things don't like our name...lol) I will give that a hole hearted try. Also..RYO1000 do you have the same system/model? And are you having the same problem?

Well good luck with the getting your PC back any time soon and in good working order. Gateway Tech's appear to be a team of overpaid, could care less about the consumer, hacks. I have no confidence in them what so ever. Had mine 3 times and didn't even solve the issue. But they did give me a nice big up yours scratch right in the middle my FX. AND....I get to send it to them again. I wonder if they will kiss me before bending me over (lol).
I don't think you have to worry about the OC factor. I'm pretty sure you should be able to do that anyway. Let me know how it works out for you. Peace and good luck
