Hi,
I just got my P-6860FX a few days ago but I cannot make it work properly. I have problems figuring out where the problem is. When the laptop was delivered with the 64Bit vista version I had a lot of graphic errors and could not run any game nor do something on the desktop without having these errors, therefore I installed various drivers, but it still did not work. I decided to format the partition and install the 32bit version of vista. Now I do not have graphic errors as long as I do not run games, apart from the the message "nvlddmkm stopped responding and has been successfully recovered" after having the monitor go off for a couple of seconds. With the 32 bit version of vista I also tried various drivers but none of them would work. Also, when I run the nvidia control panel the preview shows graphic errors. I really do not know what to do next.
Can anybody help me?
Is it a driver issue or might the GPU be spoilt?
I excuse my english, I live and grew up in germany and therefore my english is not perfect.
Thanks in advance.

where did you get it from ?
sounds like a bad gpu -
Yeah probably a hardware issue. Did you get it refurbished? Someone else was on here complaining about a refurbished unit...
-
It is a refurb and I got it on ebay...
Are there any programs that can check my GPU whether it is okay ? -
You're English is just fine. Probably better than the rest of us who actually speak it natively.
Now, on to your problem. The error you mention is usually associated with the GPU heating up past the safe point. If you're not overclocking, then it does sound like a bad GPU. Either that or the heatsink has become dislodged. Lets try this. Download HW Monitor and let us know what your gpu temps are both idle and with something GPU intensive running(such as Furmark). -
he cant sem to get any 3d running, not even the small nvidia icon in the ntune.
find a way to send it back. -
Yea, I missed the "graphic errors" in control panel part. Definitely exchange that bad boy
And royk, thanks for setting me straight. I get crooked at times. -
So do you recon I have it replaced or give it back and get my money back?
Usually refurbs work don't they? -
for that price i would try until i get a good one
-
I need to find somebody who has a P-6860FX with Vista 32 Bit installed. Please if you do so, let me know which video driver you are using and whether everything is working properly.
Thanks -
i use vista x86 (6831 is same like 6860 just 3gb ram 250gb hdd and 32bit vista)
i use the latest driver which is 177.92 i never had any issues with older drivers either. -
Okay and did you get your modded inf file from http://laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=20270 by clicking on the button "modded INF" or did you get it from somewhere else?
-
the modded inf there is good, but i edit my own infs.
-
Okay this means that my laptop is supposed to work with 177.92 and vista 32bit, since it does not and I do have the graphic errors, it really must be a hardware issue. I am just trying to make 100% sure that it is a hardware issue, because sending the laptop back will cost me a lot and if it is only a software issue I should be able to solve it myself.
There is still something that is making me think it might be a driver problem. I just installed 177.92 and the graphic errors became less, but still they are there... -
just send it back
its not software issue -
Okay thanks for helping me and your advice.

Hi
I have exactly the same prublem. (only i am from italy)
Any time playng 3d like crysis after 5 (or less) minutes playng crash with the same "nvlddmkm stopped responding and has been successfully recovered".
pc model the same P-6860FX only upgrade CPU to T9300 (2.5 Ghz)
I did not yet change original Vista (home p + sp1 uk-en) caming with.
Only replaced a lot of forceware from realease 177 175 174 random or sametime goole suggested, but nothing to do the same prublem is on.
I get back original driver from gateway that is this:
http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?st=pn¶m=1015340R
NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTS 167.46
15/11/2007
7.15.11.6746
On the suggestion of what I read dawn (from Dook message 08-29-2008, 06:24 PM )
I tried monitoring GPU and discover whit these two programs:
http://webferret.search.com/click?w.../download/scheda/1550/9/FurMark-1.4.0/,,msn,1
http://www.evga.com/precision/
After 3 minutes GPU temperature grodw rapidly to 64 centigrad and sistem stop graphic playng (with nvlddmkm error)
Sametime changing forcware driver like original drive may change the time (i reached 5 minutes sametime) before crash and/or temperature (the high was 75-76 centigrad)
If you interresed, can you try your computer and see if you get the same troble ?
If you have any kind of notice and/or solution on haw to solve this prublem can you help me ?
also anybody who will read this message thanks anticipate. -
how long you have this computer, where you get it from ?
your temps are normal. -
(identical situation like original posting dam23)
it is 2 day caming from ebayer USA.
It is refurbished stock.
window is vista x64 (for now) -
I had window x86 loaded for a while and had no issues with any drivers. I currently have x64 loaded and again, no driver issues. If I were you I would double check the stock drivers availible from Gateway's site and see if everything is working ok. If not It pretty much has to be a Hardware problem
Mine is a refurb too, except I got it from Tigerdirect. -
-
look at the 6831 drivers
its basically the same machine but it was shipped x86 (32 bit) 250gb hdd and 3gb ram
P-6860FX videocard errors! help pls!
