I've looked around, and I couldn't find this question answered anywhere else.

If I upgrade the processor to the T9300, which supports 800Mhz DDR2, would I then be able to run 800Mhz DDR2 ram at 800Mhz? Or does the system board only support 667Mhz.

I was looking around for info on what motherboard/chipset/northbridge the 6860fx uses, so far no luck.

    Thanks.

P.S. I just registered, but have been a long time lurker.

The Moterboard for the P-fx series will only support 667MHz.

Without being able to fine tune bios settings, faster ram wouldn't have much effect, I think.

So the RAM in here is really the limiting factor of overall performance?

Can anything be done to increase it's performance?

Not that I'm unhappy with it, just asking.

The only thing you can do is upgrade your cpu, and a faster hard drive, but this laptop is great as is.

My 6860fx came with a WD Scorpio (WD3200BEVT) From what I've read, it's a pretty fast drive. I picked up a 2nd one for $120, have them running in raid 0. Benchmarks show it being pretty damn quick.

The WD Scorpio 320 GB, 5400 RPM drive has about the same performance as a 200 GB 7200 RPM drive since the platters have really high data density which decreases seek time.

Hi, I'm about to buy a n P-6860FX, and already decided to upgrade the cpu to an 8300, but i'am not sure about what to choose as a second HD,

what would be a better choice:
200gb 7200 as first HD running vista
    or
another 320 5400 WD scorpion in raid 0?

I went with a 2nd Scorpio, since they had it at fry's for $140 as I walked by. But I would do it again. HD benchmark is from 64MB/sec - 120MB/sec

Useful for moving a lot of files around while playing games.

It's super easy. If you are going to run raid 0, vista is a good bet, as the drivers are hard to get right (Read: slipstreamed) in xp.

But really, there are posts already about how to do it. Just throw the thing in there and change the Compatibility/AHCP setting in the BIOS. Hit ctrl-I when it tells you, and BOOM!.... Well, hopefully no boom...
