Did you notice that you are at 61c with 4% GPU load? What temps are you hitting while gaming?

For me, the temperature in the games is 61-72C
The temperature depends on the thermal paste and cleaned the cooling...

9c.25.00 lets the system idle at high temps. So long as the systems cooling is in good shape (good TIM and clean HS) then gaming temps will be kept reasonable. This especially true if the clocks and voltages are kept to 2D rates.

So it's been awhile. I didn't think anyone would still be posting about this laptop 5 years after its release. Anyway, I have the 9c.17.00 bios and well the black screen issue, while playing games more and more and I would be amazed if this fixed it. So how do I flash this on win 7 x64? sorry I didn't see a how to with this post.

Edit: So I've been reading more into this now that there is more info out there. I changed my clock settings to the ones mentioned below (GPU Clock - 450 MHz Memory - 799 MHz Shader - 1123 MHz) And I played a few games on max settings and I wasn't getting the black screen! I've messed around with this in the past but never found the best combination between the 3 clock settings. So my question is whats the best way to go? I see you posted in another thread about an unlocked bios version of 9C.17.00. What major differences does that bring over the locked one? Or is .25 considered better now? Also would like to know what files to click on when flashing in Win 7 x64 HP.

    Thank you.

I can't comment on clocks for the issue. I never had it myself. Another user ahs claimed baking the main board has, at least temporarily solved the issue. I do know someone had made a 9c.17.00 underclocked and undervolted GPU version but I do not have that file.

I've said this before but you're not actually changing the voltages.

All you're doing is changing the human readable tag for the ACTUAL voltage.

Assigning a different VID in Nibitor is the ONLY way to change voltages.

Right now I wish the 9800m gts had higher voltage VID's but that's besides the point.

It isn't the voltage that was changed on the version I spoke of. It was vbios to keep it out of 3D speeds and down to the lower voltage. Irt was found out a while ago the labled voltage id only changed and the actual voltage is hard wired.

I've been running 450, 799, 1123 and I've not noticed a degrade in performance and I have yet to have a BSSOD. Constant benchmarking and gaming. Now if I could just get them to stick in Ntune after a reboot...

Interesting to note for about 4 years now I have been running the newest nvidia graphics drivers for this laptop. Now I had just purchased BioShock Infinite and well I was getting terrible performance. Couldn't run it on any high settings on 1920 x 1200 or lower at 1280 x 800. So I decided to load up the 2010 drivers provided by gateway for win 7. Instant fps boost, can now max everything with constant 60 - 80 fps. Other games like Far Cry 3 and Borderlands I saw a huge performance boost. So I highly recommend it if your games have been chugging to give those a shot.

Unfortunately this did not fix the BSOD but I loaded old ntune and starting working on downclocking. I found that 500/799/1250 works great.

Also I created ntune profiles so that my clocks stay normal until the GPU hits 70°. Then once the temp drops to 59° they default back to normal again.
