P-7801u No Longer For Sale?

Hello, all. First post, but have been lurking for a while.

I will be grabbing a 7805 at the local BB this week, but I was considering the 7801u in case I couldn't find a 7805 in my area. Over the course of the last several hours, it has basically disappeared from the face of the earth (at a reasonable price at least). Two days ago, it was on J&R's site and on Amazon (sold by J&R). Yesterday, it dropped from Amazon at that price, then today from J&Rs main site, and later off TigerDirect. Until this morning, J&R had it @$1199 (Tiger was $1299), but now they don't have it at all. J&R had a banner up saying the sale was up on 2/1. I guess they weren't kidding.

Newegg still has it for $1600, and Amazon can sell it to you through ComputerBrain for a measly $1817.63!

Anyway, sorry if this is old news, but it seemed pretty sudden to me.

Maybe J & R still has some, but it would take a phone call.

That's some crap, I had jury duty today and couldn't get back in time to order one. My laptop plans are shot for now. I haven't been able to dig up a 7805u with the 1920x1200 screen.

 

Phone call to them is free, tizzao.

Maybe they just removed it from their site because they had it labeled as a "P-801u"?

 

I tried calling them already but their phones are off. Apparently closed for the day.

 

Holy $#!+, I'm glad I bought mine when I did.

 

Bought it yesterday and used Live CashBack to save 7% off as well as the tax since I shipped it to my cousin in Jersey instead of to my house in NY. Total: $1115.99. I hope they don't tell me they don't have anymore when it comes time to ship. I don't think they took it down due to the typo, because that can be easily fixed in real time.

I hope I get it by the end of the week, assuming it'll ship Wednesday and I get it in a day. If they can do free same day to the 5 boroughs, UPS can get my package to a town right by the Jersey border in the same time.

I still don't understand why only J&R, Newegg and Tiger Direct are the only ones who sell the p7801. Why is that when it's cheaper than the 805 and 811 and yet better?

 

Alright, I actually called about 2 hours ago. I talked to the guy on the phone and they had 1 left in their actual store, but they OVERSOLD 3 of them online, there stock is -3. I told him to hold the last one for me, only holding it til tomorrow afternoon. though. Don't think I will make it. Good luck to whoever gets it though.

 

So, I've been looking around. The 7801u is no longer available from any website except newegg ($1599).

It looks like that's the last 1920x1200 option available other than ebay.

Pretty crappy for those trying to buy, but what can you do. I guess I'll wait for the next big thing.

 

Well, even though I'm not supposed to do this here, but I've been thinking of selling my 7801u (with the 1920x1200 screen) but I've been wondering if I should post on the buy/sell forum or go for ebay.

Edit: And I'm surprised people want the 1920x1200 screen. There was a thread somewhere here and the majority of the people were raving about 1440x900 and how they didn't want the 1920x1200 screen.

 

Just got mine 10 minutes ago.. Shipped it to Jersey to save tax, so my dad is picking it up for me on his way back from the car auctions..

I can't wait for it!!

I was scared as hell when the manager said they had -3 units, he said someone bought 3 and all they had were display models. Called up customer service, finished the credit check in 2 minutes, then it was shipped out last night. Not bad, ordered sunday got it this morning

I've been hearing bad things about the screen and a white blob on it from the side viewing angle. Looking at my friend's 7811, I see nothing wrong with his laptop that people have been claiming, such as overheating etc.

I want to mod this and maybe stick some sort of cooling mechanism in the second hard drive bay. Maybe make it custom in CAD then machine it myself with light aluminum sheet metal.

Also thinking of modding the top plastic LCD shell and making it out of chain maille with a custom design

 

be careful exposing the back of the LCD and also the weight of the chain could cause hinge problems..but if you can match the weight i think that would be an awesome mod.

 

FYI... Your WiFi antennae are located in the lid behind the LCD. Metal on the lid might adversely affect your WiFi connection....
