I this laptop a few weeks ago, I love it and everything but there is only one problem I been having with it; in the case you don’t know it has build in webcam with microphone ;) . The thing is that when I boot the laptop the microphone device doesn’t show up in the system at all :( , like it is no connected  . I tried reinstalling the drivers and sometimes it does work but when I restart it doesn’t work anymore  . Anyone having the same problem or know anything that can help out? Thank you in advance  .

I read through your smiley face fiasco :D
I'm not sure exactly where this problem is coming up but I do know that there are some config options when you go into your sound card properties from the audio controls on the task bar when you start Vista. Should be in the bottom right of your screen and you should be able to look at recording settings. There is a process you can go through on that to test the mic and you should see input when you just talk(nothing plugged into the mic jack). You read a settence as part of that process and this configuration only seems to need to be done once. There may be an option to load it on startup during this process but I have to look at it again.
The mic should not be enabled unless you have enabled it though I think. I generally use vent for gaming and after setting it up once vent usually initializes the mic when I start vent if I am not mistaken. Check on those settings and let me know if you find something to enable on startup. I'll look when I get back to my computer tomorrow night. Regardless it should not be painful. Mic is generally easy to use on these laptops.
    Good Luck

When I go to the sound options and click on recording (divice) there is nothing there, so I can’t change the setting for something that “I don’t have”, but I actually have a microphono becouse it is build inside the laptop.

This is all stuff I copied from the support site at Gateway:
You might want to try these steps to get more information:

Click Start, Control Panel, and then click Hardware and Sound.
Under Sound, click Manage audio devices. The Sound dialog box with settings opens.
If No audio devices are installed is displayed, go to Verify Audio Drivers are installed.
    View Picture
    Click the Recording tab.
In the box that displays the settings, right-click in the empty area under the displayed devices.
If not already checked, place a check in the box for Show Disabled Devices.
Repeat the process for Show Disconnected Devices.
Once all devices are listed, verify that the Microphone is in a "Working" state.
If the Mic is in a "Disabled" state, or "Currently unavailable" state, move cursor over device to highlight, right-click, and select Enable. Click OK.

Make sure if you make any changes you do hit apply. Once you finish and exit out it may ask you to restart. Not a bad idea. You can always go back in when it restarts and check the settings again to verify they haven't changed.

Thank you xarthos, I tried everything there and that don’t seems to work; it’s like windows sometimes recognized the microphone and sometimes it doesn’t, not sure why is that.
