If this has been covered, please redirect to appropriate thread - thanks.
I am running Gateway factory installed Vista x64 on an P-7801u with factory default hardware (un-overclocked). When using vista's "Start - > - Shut Down" sequence, occasionally the computer reboots rather than just shutting down. This will happen repeatedly until I use the "Alt+F4" command to open the shutdown pop-up window and select Shut Down there. Then it will actually shut down correctly.
-Is this a know issue?
-If so, is it a Vista bug, or a Gateway bug?
-Is there a fix and what is it?
If the answer to the above are no, then I guess I may have picked of virus somewhere...?
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

It must be your start menu setting that's adjusted by your power plan.
Control Panel > Power Options > Choose Your Appropriate Plan > Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Power Buttons and Lid > Start Menu Power Button > Choose "Shutdown".
That should fix it. -
The ethernet solution described in this thread fixed it for me:

Well, I finally had a chance to try this out last night, and it seems that it was defiantly the wake from shutdown Ethernet card issue. It seems the only reason an option like that would be enabled by default is to inform the user that the feature is there in the first place...
Thanks for the quick responses and shared wisdom. -
P-7801u reboots when told to shutdown (bug...?)
