    Hi.

New computer. After 3 days and installation of some Windows update, when I shutdown the computer, it restarts right away after 1 second of being shut down. I have read on the net about this and did a lot to try to fix it but nothing worked. Some solution was to remove Wake on Lan in the bios, but My bios doesn't even have that option. Seems that gateway bios doesnt have alot in them. I also tried to shutdown the computer with nothing plugged in, still doesn't fix it.

So I don't want to use recovery disk since there is no place I can move my data for now. I would like to try to resolve this without formating. Note that I tried to do a system recovery in safe mode but like eveyrone online, seems that a lot of people can't do them in vista 64, get an error that says it couldnt do it.

Edit : My bios is 9c.17.00 which I think is actually the latest one...dang it, this is irritating....

If someone can help me, It would be greatly appreciated because 3 days ago, it took 3 shutdown to close, 2 days ago, closed on the first attempt, yesterday 3 and tonight I'm on my 7th attempt. Came here to try to do and understand how to do the bios update, but I have no clue at all.

It seems I finally found the solution. Shutdown the computer twice in a row and it shutdown on the first try.

Here is what I did to fix it. Maybe someone can use this info. The guide I took the info from is very good.

I went to my network card / Properties / advanced tab and I scrolled down until I saw something called Wake on Shutdown (name can be a little different the it has the same meaning) and I disabled it. It's Step 6 in this guide. The guide is actually to trouble shoot vista sleep mode.

Thanks. That link helped me in finding out something i was looking out. On how to wake up from sleep (not me. LOL) using mouse/keyboard instead of power button.
