I have a P-7805U laptop and I was planing on getting a more powerful CPU but was concerned that the CPU may overheat in my system. I wanted to buy a X9100 mainly because its a cheaper than the T9900 or T9800. At least on eBay. So my questions are...

    1. Will my laptop and or CPU be damaged if I use the X9100 without any undervolting or extra cooling when playing games like Crysis or GTAIV?

    2. Will my laptop see the X9100 as 3.06GHz?

    3. Are there any other downsides to doing this besides lower battery life?

    Thanks.

    Got a X9100 C0 Stepping in mine.

1). Probably not but it certainly will get VERY hot. Mine currently idles @ 61C and that is with undervolting (0.975v @ 7x to 10x; 1.037v @ 11x; 1.075v @ 11x), ICD7 application on CPU and northbridge, overvolted modified Cryo LX running at 9v. CPU gets as hot as 90C during OCCT Linpack stress tests with all this cooling. Other users have reported their X9100s idling around 32C though!

2). Yes but you cant OC it.

3). Apart from heat issues, not really as far as i can tell. Go with a P-series or T9900 IMO. Better.

I bought a p-7805u on ebay with a x9100 installed (unmodified). I get 33C on idle and 91C on full load using Prime95. So im happy with it.

using some generic compound that shirleyfu shipped with the piece. going to get some ICD7 later today.

Install was a snap following both parts of this vid

You're idling at 61 now! holy crap on a cracker!

    Thats almost twice my x9000.

you have to have a bad Thermal compound application... or something

What are you maxing out at? 130? :(

With the those temps and the inability to OC via multiplier, I wonder how much cooler a 35W T9900 would run vs. an X9100.

And if all that stuff may as well had been written in Klingon to you, this is what it comes down to

The X9100 uses a lot more power and generates a lot more heat than the T9900, however it seems to perform marginally better

EDIT: not marginally. moderately is probably a better word

I still max out at around 83C but idle temps are the problem.

Andrew from IC has kindly agreed to send me a tube of ICD7 to try out TIM application again given that i dont have ICD7 left from my ebay purchase.

I'm guessing it's the northbridge that is causing the problem despite the fact i put a massive glouble of ICD7 on it 1st time round

Thanks for all the input. I ended up buying a T9600 instead because it was a little cheaper. I have looked up how to replace the CPU already thanks to this forum.

    Thanks again.

Just thought I may shed some light on some people with regard to this matter:
I have a 7801u, I upgraded to an x9100 ES with E0 stepping from Shirlyfu on Ebay. I gotta say I couldn't be more satisfied, the E0 temperatures run MUCH lower than the C0 temperatures. It idles at 29 - 32C and left overnight running prime 95 for 7 hours temps never went above 49C. This may sound shocking as I was shocked myself when I took a look that morning.

I can certainly post the procedure I went through if anyone is interested.
