For those that have replaced the screen with one of the ebay 19x12 units, what has been your experience w/ dead or stuck, inactive pixels?

Right now my 1440x900 has not a one and I see the main seller says up to 3 are permissable.. I'd hate to go 200 for one and end up with up to 3, so I'm curious about those on here, did you get any, how many?

    thanks

My screen was sourced from the UK cos i live there but i have heard good things about SmartMicroUSA (registered on ebay too as a powerseller). A lot of forum members have good things to say about this particular retailer; they even offer a Zero Dead Pixel guarantee policy IIRC....much better than the ones based in China/HK.

If i was patient enough to wait around for international delivery and also not have to worry about import taxes then I'd definitely had bought my screen from SmartMicroUSA. In hindsight, I would have also opted to get a LG screen as opposed to my current Samsung one.

I got mine from sunvalley US on ebay for 137. No dead pixels and it was an LG model, so the quality is superb (one of the LP171WU1-TLA3 models). Quality was grades better than the stock and it got delivered in two days, think it ships from somewhere in Cali.

They have something listed about no dead pixels in the description for the item. Not quite sure if it was a guarantee. Heres the link if it still works:

Installing wasn't all that bad either. The trick was to know to use the old inverter and not trying to use the inverter mount on the new screen

not yet, will be soon tho. right now all i use it for is video editing and gaming, tho it increases productivity a lot when you need to type and read multiple documents. some complain about the text size but anyone with a brain and a mouse can change it easily if their vision is bad

FYI, you get black bars on 90% of the blu-ray films @ 1920x1200; much to my chagrin. Open Season 2 is the only film i have seen so far that does not have black bars.

    something about aspect ratios......

is this off of the bluray disc or a raw mkv?

EDIT: nevermind, I though you were referring to some glitchy black bars, but you mean the letterbox ones

I checked the link looks nice. I see it mentions no inverter, what's the trick to using the existing one on the system?

There is a pic of the inverter, its the circuit board that hangs off the bottom of the screen. Its covered in some orange plastic in that pic. And dont worry, itll be obvious when you switch them cuz you only have one cable that connects the motherboard to the lcd and that cable only fits the stock inverter.

All you have to do is unscrew the one on the new screen. and thats it. there are two cables. one is built into the lcd to connect it to the inverter, the other can be disconncected from both ends and connects the motherboard to the lcd. ALl you have to do is plug in the things where they fit, and you know where they go because you'll get to see how they're plugged in on your stock screen before you take it apart
