I need help, my laptop keeps randomly freezing; I can move my mouse but can't click on anything, I have to hold down the power key. I'v tried many maintenance steps including disk check, defrag, cleaning registry, removing old/unneeded programs. Everytime I run a disk check, I always have a ton of corrupted files.

I downloaded seatools diagnostic test and ran the long/short test but it failed them both. I also downloaded HD Tune and ran an error check which came back clean and a health check which had 2 reported problems: it had warning next to (05) Reallocated sector count and next to (OA) Spin Retry Count. My HD tempature is also 55C degrees with a cooling fan under it (edit: I just checked temp again and it's at 49%, I guess it takes a while to cool down after playing a game).

Does anyone know what the problem is? I filed a claim with my warranty but they emailed me back saying it's a software problem and told me to reinstall my operating system. However, I think it's a hard drive problem and not a software problem.

    What do you guys think?

    Thanks

What sucks is you will have to ship it to Gateway and pay $20 for shipping and insurance plus you will have to go a couple weeks without this computer. (Unless you want to buy a new drive.) This probably won't be useful for you in your situation, but I used EASEUS Todo Backup to make a copy of my hard drive.

Well actually, I have a warranty with squaretrade and they offer free shipping, free box to ship it in, and a 5 day garentee return. It's just a pain to go through these troubleshooting steps when I don't think it is a software problem at all. But they won't accept my claim until I'v tried all their steps or can show proof that it's the HD.

    Warrantys suck.
They always assume the user is the problem.
    (They usually are right, though)
