My current laptop is dying after two years of faithful service and I plan on buying a 7805u in the coming weeks. My current laptop's hard drive and two sticks of 1GB DDR2 memory are in perfect condition. My first concern is how many sticks of ram does the P-7805u support and the second question is what raid configuration do I set my hard drives at if I wanted to use both in the two hard drive bays. The hard drive I have right now is IDE not SATA so would that even be compatible for RAID config's?

Any feedback would be appreciated. :)

Also, the RAM is two sticks of 2G each, filling the two slots.

    I was wondering with a processor like P8400 would you even notice a difference if the P-7805u had a 4gb DDR2 ram or a 4gb DDR3 ram?

DDR3 is not really that much faster, it just uses less battery (I think).

Thanks. I guess my 80GB HD and 2GB ram will have to be used for another computer purchase instead then.

You could get an external HD housing and use that 89G as an external HD for backup.

Yea. Old hard drives are great for re-purposing as external storage. I do it all the time. I have a few here that got converted to external drives.

Anyways for raid you always want to use matching drives regardless. Never used drives from different brands or even different model lines of the same brand. The specs may seem the same but the internal mechanics may still be different which can, potentially, negatively affect the performance of the array. You don't have to get another 320gb but you will need to get 2 of the same drive otherwise. I happen to be carrying over my old 500gb drive from my last laptop so I just went and got another of the same brand and model (yep.... wd scorpio blue).
