I noticed that if I reboot my laptop it always gets frozen with a black screen instead of showing the BIOS splash screen. I can temporarily fix this by unplugging the battery and power adapter and holding the button down by 30 seconds. Then I can boot again. I was wondering if there is a fix for this.

Also I noticed that there seems to be no way to control the fan manually. I'd prefer to let myself control the fan rather than this automatic fan that only seems to turn on around 80 degrees celcius.

I'm using 9c.23.00 BIOS btw, just updated to it 30 minutes ago.

Thanks for the help in advance.

We all have been looking to control the fan, I think there is no real successful option. I could be wrong here though. If you want lower GPU temps overall go to 9c.17.00 bios.

As far as the lockup, what OS are you using? If windows 7 then you may need to get the firewire driver to the (legacy) driver...............

I don't want to go to 9c.17.00 because I had that a while back and my fan would half of the time never start while I was gaming then my GPU hit 103 degrees. Then I'd have to alt-tab and let it calm down or hope the fan kicked in. My Idle temperatures are higher in .23, but at least the fan ALWAYS kicks in at 80 degrees.

I'm using Windows 7 X64, but it happened a couple of times when it used to be on vista back when I first got it.

I've got this problem in Windows 7 and I installed the drivers using the gateway disc. Except for me the problem happens less frequently than 100%. Actually I think it might be related to this program called MCEBuddy. Still I'll try installing that firewire driver.

If you get the problem solved, please tell me how to fix it... I'd love to be able to reboot my laptop without the worry of having to do the stupid temporary fix. It's rather annoying :(

I have a fresh install of Windows 7, not just an upgrade of the original Vista install. I have had to do the legacy firewire as well. It really isn't temporary as far as a fix it is permanent but I am not sure if there is any functionality loss.

MCEBuddy looks to be a converter for media files to other formats. Something I do not tend to use. So I can't comment on the usefullness nor it locking the system up.

If the fan isn't kicking on properly then you may have some other hardware or vbios issue. I don't think your symptoms are common or should I say I don't see this as a commonly reported issue.

Another reason I think you have an issue is with 9c.17.00 my GPU never even hits 80c even with Furmark on burn and overclocked to its ability. I don't know about yours but on high my GPU fan sounds like a jet engine, I mean it really is moving fast (at least 2x the RPM my CPU fan ever reaches). your fan may be ready to go at which point if it does no bios will help you.

The laptop is barely over a year old and I do not use it much (I use it in class as we're required to have a laptop, but that's it. I have a desktop at home for gaming. I only bring these issues up as I'm home for christmas so I brought the laptop with me).

Like I said, since I updated to .23, my fan ALWAYS works which is nice.

Can I just disabled Firewire totally, I don't ever use it anyways. This would mean if I disabled firewire and MCEBuddy my system should stop failing to reboot?

Also I cannot attempt to send this back for repairs due to the fact that it would not get back to me in time for school. I guess I can put up with the temp fix I have been using, it's not a big deal as I don't reboot the system during the day. I turn it on, use it during class, turn it off and go home.
