try cleaning-out your vents, check if you have a dust bunny stuck on there... these things have no torque at all...so if anything is in the way they wont spin.

I once had this problem and even had my fan replaced before I realized what was going on -_-. If your fan power setting is set to Power Saver the fan won't spin as often and most of the time not at all.

I work with geeksquad with bestbuy, I would def say bring it and have them ship it out to the service center (SVC). It will take 2-3 weeks for it to get fixed and back to you. Make sure you have all your information backed up because there is a possiblity if they find the HDD bad or something happens to it on the way there you could lose your information. So, I would recommend backing it up to an external HDD, which you should get one if you don't have one. I have this same model and my fan isn't working either, it's about 4ish months out. I didn't get a warranty from bestbuy just because I researched this comp and seen that the big issues were the fans and the HDDs. Both of which will be covered under the manufacturer warranty which is a year. I'll probably go into my work today and check in my laptop. Thank goodness I still have my FX desktop lol. Also, like the other guy stated above, keep it clean, I blow out all my ventilation with canned air two / three times a day same as I do with all my desktops and laptops. You would be surprized how much dust builds up over time and can cause over heating in your computer. Most likely though, it's probably just the fan is your issue since a large amount of people have had this issue. Oh, also, I just found out couple days ago when I was working on some customer's FX that there is different resolution screens now on the FX models. Some of them have 1900 x 1220, I think is the res, and some have the 1440 x 900 which is what I have. Turns out there is two different LCDs that come with this model, it's not the graphics card that is different, it's the LCD which allows the greater resolution. So, I was pissed to find out that this customer had the good one and I wasn't even told this by the computer section guys at bestbuy, lol. So, I would recommend if you're reading this when thinking about this model, ASK to see the computer out of the box before you take it home. They may make you purchase the computer first, that's fine, just open it afterwards in the store before you leave and keep making them open them til they get the high res LCD. If they don't have it, get your refund, walk out, and go to another bestbuy or another store. Now I think about what my graphics would be like on WoW and CS with the 1900 x 1220 >.<. If you have any further questions you can hit me up at my e-mail.

Hmm never read about or heard that the fans abruptly dying was an issue with the 7805? Mine are running strong 3 months in...

    ..Wait...
and OMG OMG sitnsideways (a best buy employee) said the 7805 has 2 different res's out for the 7805???!!! and he also claims and recommends you should just buy the 7805 at Best Buy and walk out check res and bring back...as easy as that! But forgot to mention that theres a 15% restocking fee! and that there are novel of posts on the two res's gateway produced...

I swear the people they hire at best buy....someone should "hit him up" as he says...

Edit: read over my post and Im not trying to be a but please dont recommend things to fellow newbies or others that may actually cost them unwated expenses etc..thats all im getting at

ZP=WIN...Actually bud this is what he said..

"ASK to see the computer out of the box before you take it home (they will say no bc once its opened it is unable to be sold as new). They may make you purchase the computer first (yes they will), that's fine (no its not), just open it afterwards in the store (as opposed to outside the store on the sidewalk bc its a huge difference then) before you leave and keep making them open them til they get the high res LCD (???? huh im so sure theyl do this). If they don't have it, get your refund, walk out, and go to another bestbuy or another store ( your right they will open box after box booting up each laptop waiting to get you a 1900X1200 IN STORE all while breaking each box's seal so they can lose money!)

This advise is stellar!!...and ZP=WIN, so is your reading, but more importantly, comprehending skill

kingcobra25- So the fan (just 1 or both?) is/are turning off randomly? but they work sometimes? Or just never work right from boot up? Thats interesting for the 7805u. I mean yes the way Gateway has the 2 fans surging on and off is annoying but it has worked greast for me so far. I can game for 3 hours straight on Crysis almost maxed and I can hear those damn fans blasting and Im always wondering "man I wonder what my temps have reached after 3 hours of this" and I exit the game and my HWMonitor shows my CPU's never maxed above 50 degrees and my GPU never above 73 degrees! How do you know your CPU's have crazy temps? If you are monitoring them what are the temps? at idle and during a gaming session? Sorry for all the questions but this is the first I have heard about the 7805u having faulty fans.... ; (
