My right speaker sounds a bit tinny/distorted during playback (sometimes it sounds like a sort of hiss or buzz). My warranty is almost up and honestly, I don't really trust Gateway to do it (I'm also annoyed that they make you pay to ship it in to them).

I've been having a hard time finding a replacement part. I found this:

    http://www.laptoprepairco.com/itemdetails/itemdetails.asp?ref=1393&category=misc
    http://www.laptopking.com/kingpartdetails.asp?ref=1393&category=misc

...but they're out of stock and no part # is given. I suppose I could live with the sound, but if it gets any worse it will drive me mad.

Is there any other place to find the part? Do you think my local computer repair shop would have any more luck finding it (I'd actually be more willing to pay them than to ship it to Gateway)?

Try ebay. It's the same part on the 6831,6860,7811, etc...
