Does anyone know the best way to obtain one of these? I always like to keep a spare battery around in case the stock one dies.

For the longest time we were just calling gateway telling them that our BIOS wouldnt allow us to calibrate the battery like it says to in the manual.

Not sure if that still works for people though.

All of the FX's use the same battery though, so i'm pretty sure a quick chat with gateway can put you intouch with a parts dealer that sells them

Actually thats about what laptop batteries cost. Its a really good price. Go to Dell or HP or Sager and click on "additional battery" and you will see they are all quite expensive

hmm ...you are right. I can't believe laptop batteries are that expensive! I get the bad feeling that those parts vendors don't often have sales either. I guess I need to figure out if it is worth the investment seeing that I didn't purchase any extended warranty and got a floor model :\

Do you actually use your battery much?

I tend to view mine as an emergency battery back up and just keep my 6860 plugged in at all times. I cant say thaty i have ran it more than 5 hours total on battery.

    Same here.

The FX is not an ideal mobile laptop, it's supposed to be my desktop computer replacement, but my desktop computer is quadcore and 24" monitor and lots of ther goodies.

If your battery shows only 97% at full charge ( mine did when new), run it down to about 10% power left, then charge it. You will get the 100% full charge.
