hi there! ive just recently purchased this laptop from the States (now ive returned to Romania) and I have a big big problem which apparently its not uncommon for this laptop type: the left fan bursts randomly, at irregular intervals (but i would say 80% of the time), even in idle state - like a car which just speeds up... and is making a lot of noise.

Does anybody have discovered a solution for it?
Ive read someting about bios reverse, but i really dont want to pursue this kind of things, as im not at all a technical person - plus that I might go into much more problems.

And also how many of you experience this kind of high noise of the left fan?

On a side note, i really like this laptop. My other cons are that the audio isnt accurate (don't know how to express myself but the music I listen seems to reverse/stop/lag for just a fraction of seconds sometimes) and i have a stuck pixel.

THANKS a lot for ur incoming answers. I cant really get acustomed with this irregular bursts of fan high noise and I need to fix it, otherwise I deeply regret buying the laptop.

Hello. Did you buy this laptop used or refurbished?

Hmm. I've heard about people solving this with a BIOS flash, but you specifically stated that you did not want to go there. Have you opened your notebook up and checked if anything is obstructing the fan? Does the fan get noticeably louder when playing games?

as far as I know (just from browsing different forums) you can't open the notebook on the side of the left fan (this one is the CPU fan). maybe someone could jump in with more info about it.

about BIOS - I would do it as a last resort method but only if I am definetly sure it resolves the problem. also, if I flash the BIOS to an old version i will not be able afterwards to reverse it to the stock BIOS, isn't it? moreover, I do not know how to do it :)

as for gaming, i didn't have time for gaming, however even if the fan behaviour would be different or similar, the problem remains - in idle state is unacceptable to make so much noise like a racing car which prepares for the start by pushing up its engines...

On my 7811 upgrading the BIOS from .05 to .12 solved this problem.
I don't think theres any reason why you cant go back to an older BIOS if you don't like the new one.

This is absolutely normal for the FX..mine does the same thing..not a problem just the "cyber cooling" design...read reviews on the 7805u...eveyone has it..not a problem just a little annoying

I spoke to a friend who works with electronics about my 7811's fan noise, and he said that most of the fans on equipment do the exact same thing. It's got something to do with an engineering requirement of the fan - I forget if he said it's for lubrication of the bearing or to ensure the air gets moving - but it's a fan design thing.

Now I'm perfectly happy with my 6860's fan, and I wondered if I could get another one and swap it out, but you have to disassemble the whole case to get at the GPU on these models, so I gave up the idea (and eventually the 7811 - I'm chugging along with a highly upgraded 6860 atm :D ).

Best of luck whatever you decide!

I have the exact same noise and its been driving me nuts!!! At least its been clarified that its not a problem its just the way that it was made. I tried flashing the bios like 3 times to see if it would go away and unfortunately no success. Is there a way of changing the gpu fan?

It is the same with mine as well. I had mine shipped to me with bios version .17, and then tried .12 with no change. Then went back up to .17. I ended up undervolting and that did help a bit.

Changing BIOS seems to work differently for different people. Some people love .12 and say it makes the problem go away. For me, .12 not only increased the frequency of the problem, but it caused something to make a bing noise whenever the fan stopped.

i just spoke to gateway and told them the annoying noise that occurs when the gpu is fan isnt spinning and they said to send it in for repairs. hopefully i get it back and the problems fixed! the only thing i'm scared of is that they send me a refurbished model.
