hi folks,
i've got the gateway 7811fx with nforce 175,80 standard preinstalled drivers.
Everythings working fine except for racedriver grid and cs source. After 5 -10 mins gaming the fps to du aroung 30 and stays at that rate till i drop to the desktop, thenbring the game upfront again and it works perfectly alright for the next couple minutes. Its definetly not a heat issue since crusis for example works for hours just fine. I have checked the temps via everest while the framedrop happens in css and the gpu is only 71 centigrade, the cpu not more then 50. Can it be a driver problem, shall i ubgrade to the 188,70? Has anyone got the same problem as i do?
-
Upgrading from the stock drivers is usually a good idea
-
so, i ubdated the drivers to 180,70, but still the sam thing. After a couple of minutes of grid the frames drop drastically, dropping to the desktop tab/alt resolves the issue till it all starts over again.
Any suggestions? -
i think i found out whats going on. I was playing grid with everest measuring temps in the background, and when the fps dropped again i switched to the desktop and i just glimpsed the cpu diode at 98 centigrade. 1 sec later it was down to 58 which probably is the real temp. Despite that the temp at the cpu really feels pretty cool, nothing compared to the gpu, so this 98 centigrade thing must be a glitch. Does anybody know hot to resolve this problem?

Very strange problem... I'm not sure how much I can help, and I can't think of much that might fix it... I have the earlier version, P-6831FX, and I've played both those games at length (Well, CS:S a lot more than GRID), but never experienced anything like that. In fact, usually alt+tabbing CAUSES problems instead of fixing them.
You did a full uninstall of the drivers before installing the new ones, right? And did you get the drivers from laptopvideo2go.com? -
Oops, you're quick... I'd say if you're not feeling scalding temps coming out of your laptop, then maybe it's a bug... turn Everest off and give it a try. If it IS thinking that it's overheating then it's downclocking to cool the GPU.
I would really check to make sure that it actually ISN'T overheating though... do you have your laptop propped up or a cooling pad/fan underneath it? If you have it resting directly on the desk it may be getting pretty hot.... -
no i just got flat on the table, but i really dont think the cpu is anywhere close to overheating. I mean i should feel some really hot air coming from the cpu as i do from the gpu when playing something like crysis right? But the hole cpu area feels pretty cool. you know when i was looking for solutions on the inet today i thought i read something about false diode-alarms with the 7811. Maybe thats it. And its nothing to do with everest since it happens without aswell.
Is there anyway of disabling the cpu diode or the cpu savetycatch? -
Everest reports CPU temp, and individual core temps. what Everest calls "CPU" is what is reported as "TZS0" in CPUID's HWMonitor, but you might want to give HWMonitor a try to make sure that is what hits 98C. HWMonitor also retains the max temp so you don't have to catch it in the act. The TZS0 98C event is assumed to be a bug, but there is no official fix. It generally only appears during overclocking. You can use RMClock to supress the downthrottle. Some folks have reported that the 9C.05 and 9C.10 BIOS don't have as much problem with the sensor spike.

yeah man i guess you're right. I found the oc thread where you guys discussed the problem late last night and i;m convinced its just a bug. Anyway, the prblem i have is just the same as you guys described it. Only thing, i didnt oc, and the funny thing is it only happens with css and grid, gothic 3 and crysis just run fine. I'll give the different bioses a try and if this doesnt help i gotta do this rmclock thing tp supress the downthrottle. Can you describe to me how it works or post me a link to a description on how to do it?
P-7811 - CSS/Grid FPS drops to 30 till i drop to desktop.
