I usually play an online game called Audition. Everything was fine and the FPS was always around 170 ~ 190. Three days ago or so, suddenly, I did not know how but when I was playing it, I realized the FPS dropped to ~130, and then ~100. I did everything I could think off like check the fan, reinstall OS ( format ). I also checked the temp* but GPU's temp is always around 50 and lower. CPU's temp is around 40 ~ 50. However, I realized that after I play the game for a while, the CPU suddenly downclock to 1.5GHz and continue to drop ( original clock is 2.26 ). My friend also got the same problem and he ran antivirus program, check drivers, install the newest driver for VGA, DirectX and so on.

Is there any suggestions? I really really appreciate.

Never heard of that game, it reminds me of a creepy movie I saw though. I'm guessing it's TZS0 spiking. Run HWMonitor or something, and if TZS0 is 98C or 86C, then that's the reason. It does this because of some hardware/software issue or something. The heatsink is insufficient and there's some glitch that causes TZS0 to spike when it reaches some temperature (It's not really 98C). Usually doesn't happen if you have the stock processor and aren't overclocking the GPU. To fix it, well, there are a few options. You can take off the heatsink and try to adjust the blue thermal padding on the northbridge (use latex gloves). That helped me. You can also apply some thermal grease to the CPU (never to the northbridge). Or you can undervolt using RMClock. This blocks the downclock even in the event of a TZS0 spike, and will also cool down your system a little. This is all assuming that TZS0 is the problem, which it probably is.

Speaking of which, is there another way to block the downclock other than using RMClock? I hate how it shaves 100mhz off the CPU when you undervolt.

Edit: Actually, what are you using to monitor your clock speed?

Actually, my friend got that problem and he observed the symptoms. When the fps dropped, he used some programs to monitor that and I really did not know what these programs were. Then I got the same problem...

I did as your suggestion. I ran HWMonitor and then the game ( I think the problem would happen in any games ),after 20 minutes, TZS0 was 39 ~ 48 ( before I played, it was 36 ~ 46 ).

Moreover, I am not good at opening up the laptop and adjust the hardware or stuffs like that :( I will use RMClock to see what happen...

P/s : I even cannot run RMClock. It said that "cannot install or load RTCore64 drive"...

Use the search button, you'll find the x64 driver on this forum for RMClock.

Finally, I locked the clock and fixed the problem. Thank you guys so much. However, I still concern about what the "cost" of locking the clock like this is and how if I use the maximal performance profile. Do I need to keep the program running on the traybar in order to lock the clock or not

Yeah, you do. This is a little weird though. The cost of locking the clock isn't that high, and it doesn't look like audition is a very hard game to run. I don't know why your CPU is downclocking. Maybe it is doing it voluntarily? I mean, you are running at 100 fps at 1.5 ghz. This game doesn't seem like it's a good one to tell if you have a TZS0 problem.

The point is that the CPU has never been like that before, I mean downclock. I have been playing this game for 2 years and since I bought this laptop, I have never seen something like "voluntarily downclock" . Moreover, even though the problem was solved, it is still confusing because my TZS0 value is not 98*. It even never goes higher than ~55 ( in case I play Audition ). Is there any thoughts

    1. Get a new GPU driver..
    2. Clean your vents with air spray..
    3. Keep using Rmclock ..it's good !!
    4. Lift up the back of the laptop by put something like pack of cigarette..
    5. Turn off the powermizer ...

    1. Laptopvideo2go.com or nvidia.com (you need to disable signed drivers unless your using nvidia ones).

    2. Should help if there is some dust in your works.

    3. RMClock is a good one, it will keeps the problem from happening by overriding the system controls.

    4. This I call into question, actually makes my GPU run 5-8C higher then if its sitting on a good flat surface.

    5. Go to Laptopvideo2go.com and there forum and search for instructions, you'll need to mod the .inf of the video driver before you install to disable powermizer.
