KRaZeE: I've uploaded the individual Vista 64 drivers to megaupload, links are in the OP.

EDIT: Uploaded the whole package to megaupload too.

The Intel Matrix Storage driver link is not working for Vista 32bit. I believe because there is an updated driver and if I have done everything correctly, here is it.

Yeah version 8.5.2.1002 of the Matrix Storage Manager was pulled for some reason. Here is the link for the OS selection screen of version 8.5.0.1032 which will in turn give you links for the Storage Manager and F6 Driver Disks for each OS.

However until someone works out how to unlock the RAID facility on the 7811 these are pretty useless. Bit of a bummer that one.

    hi! = )

I just purchased this model and i have to say i'm impressed so far.
Likes so far: Beautiful screen and battery life. The machine is pretty light for it's size and beautifully styled. (i was guna buy the qosmio from best buy instead, but it was one of the ugliest-styled notebooks i've ever seen) I guess it's pretty fast but i haven't had a chance to do any benchmarks yet. I installed Crysis but all i get is a black screen when it loads. I'm going to try to update drivers and reinstall... anyone else try Crysis?

Dislikes tho so far: the headphone jack is on the right side of the machine, and it gets in the way of my mouse work. The far 2 USB ports are almost to far for my retractable mouse and the one on the other side is poorly positioned for a mouse. Don't really like the battery sticking out, either. 200 GB HDD is just barely adequate space atm, but i fear it's soon not going to be enough.

When i bought this thing i was told it was not downgradable to XP professional but i saw on the first page that there were 32-bit XP drivers!? So is it possible?

Does anyone have plans or have you downgraded this machine to XP? I might consider it or a dual boot if possible for i have a slew of old progarms i don't think are going to work (in the process of testing now).

Sorry for the long post! = )

    XP64 bit drivers, try this
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35001-35500/sp35271.exe

Some ISP's block the ftp. In that case replace ftp:// with http://

I have no idea if it will work so let us know. Good luck.
They will be older but I'm thinking any port in a storm.

You need a modified .inf file. Where did you get the driver?

    Go here: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/
    Here are Vista instructions: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11997
OK might as well give you the .inf link too: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/infs/175series/17789_vista64/nv_disp.inf

I dunno man. That's kinda risky given how flaky gpu drivers are. But if you have to do any hardware ingesting, just know that pictures are a must and we won't laugh.......much. Hope you don't have a Microsoft Sidewinder. :D

Nick, the 64bit Vista driver is the correct one. To install it, open up Control Panel, double-click System, on the left click 'Device Manager'. You should see an Ethernet Controller under Other Devices. Right click on that and hit Update Driver Software...'. Then click 'Browse my computer for driver software' and in the next screen hit Browse, find the folder where you saved the driver, hit OK and hit next. That should do it. Lemme know if it doesn't.

    royk50/all: It works perfect now! = )

I didn't reboot after running driver sweeper and i wasn't in safe mode. after rebooting, i tried the same method but it still wouldn't work. Then, i uninstalled and swept the drivers one more time, and then i just ran the setup.exe that came with the drivers and it work. I checked the driver version and it's the correct updated driver. (is it ok i did it this way?)

Anyway many thanks again. When i get home from work tonight i'll test Crysis and some other games. = )

Well, I got most of the drivers to work under Vista 32bit except for:

    - Audio
    - Ethernet
    - Touch Pad

I'm still working on it and if I figure it out I will certainly post it. Anyone else have success with Vista 32bit with those drivers?

Audio does work but that was the case when I originally reinstalled and the driver shows High Definition Audio Device and makes no mention of "Contexant". I'm not too concerned about this but eventually I'd like to be sure I have the best driver installed.

The touchpad works and does show Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad driver installed even though I have not been able to get the installer to work. Actually, the error I get is "User Account Control: Detect application installations and prompt for elevation". UAC is disabled so I'm not sure if it's suggesting that I need to turn it back on for this install? Strange.

Lastly is the Ethernet adapter. I have tried several drivers and they all result with an error telling me to connect the ethernet card. Still working on it. At least the wireless works which is primarily what I use anyway but I will need to get the Ethernet working at some point.

I will be away for 6 days so if anyone does reply to this I appologize in advance for not getting right back with comments. I'll jump on it again when I return.

    Thanks...Tbone

I've been working on trying to dual-boot Vista 64 and XP 32, and I've been trying to use this thread for reference. I've found a few problems with the first post, though.

In the XP section, the link for the touchpad goes to the same page as the link to the audio driver. Also, both Intel Matrix links seem to be broken.

More importantly, the Realtek Ethernet driver you linked to is the wrong one entirely. I looked at the device manager, and the computer actually has a Marvell Yukon Gigabit Ethernet Controller. (tbone: this is probably your problem. The exact same thing happened to me when I was trying to use the Realtek drivers.) The correct driver can be found here: http://www.station-drivers.com/page/marvell.htm. It has drivers for every OS. The Realtek Media Card Reader seems to be wrong too, but I don't know what the right one is.

Now my own personal problem: my sound isn't working at all in XP. I tried the Conexant driver in the first post (as well as several others), and I always get the same error message: "Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the device for this driver" (I could have sworn it used to say MEDIA just before "device"...now there's just an extra space). The drivers I've tried all claim to be compatible with XP, and the names all match the computer's exactly (Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221), so I don't know what's getting in the way. The device manager makes no mention of Conexant anything...just "Legacy Audio Drivers". The sound is the last thing preventing me from regularly using XP...it's driving me crazy. Has anyone else gotten it to work?

DragonRider862, try some Conexant drivers from HP. I think Toshiba uses it too but don't know how open the Toshiba site is.
    http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html
Put in some current model. On second thought you might have to go back in time before Vista.

The drivers of the HP site seem to be the same ones I've been getting from other places, and give the same error message. I've tried a bunch of them from different periods of time...none of them have worked.

For the touchpad, can someone using XP32 and/or Vista32 confirm if these work?

EDIT: Intel Matrix Storage Manager links for XP32 and Vista32 have been updated with downloads straight from Intel.

I found this by Cheryl G. on HP site. Couldn't link to the post so copied it.
Sounds like you have to do some expanding and manual install. So maybe the drivers are good, just needs different install procedure.
Here is a link to the thread: http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service...47627+1219295181744+28353475&threadId=1197797

In regards to the Cheryl G. advice:

I saw that when I was searching, but I don't have an "Audio device on HD" in my Device Manager. Under "Sound, video and game controllers", I only have Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media Control Devices, and Video Codecs. There are also three unknown devices though...the sound card might be one of those. But I don't know how to get them identified.

Try downloading the drivers to a folder on your desktop, and through Device Manager manually selecting the driver location and choosing the folder for all 3 unknown devices. If it's not the matching device, the installation will just say no drivers found, so no harm done.

    Huh. THIS is odd.

I ran the UAA thing (which I could have sworn I've done several times before to no effect), and when it finished, I got a "new hardware detected" message and three new entries appeared in the "other devices" tab: Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus is on there twice (for some reason) and there's also a Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus. The three "unknown devices" from before are still there. But when I restarted my computer (due to a prompt on the UAA installer), they disappeared. If I run the installer again, the audio devices come back, but keep disappearing when I restart (the installer doesn't ask me to anymore though).

I guess I'll try going through the whole process on both Audio Devices and see if it sticks through a restart afterwards.

Oh, and the Synaptics thing works fine in XP32, by the way.

EDIT: Okay, I just tried it. It failed with the first audio device, but succeeded with the second. I reset the computer, and as it shut down I got the standard XP shutdown tone (the first sound I've heard other than horrid screeching so far), but when it rebooted, all the audio things were gone from the device manager again. I then ran the UAA install thing again, and only then did the working Conexant reappear under Sound, video, and game controllers. So I can get the sound to work, but the computer keeps forgetting every time it restarts. Does anyone know what the reason for this could be?

(It may be worth noting that there was no "show compatible hardware" box for me to uncheck. I went partway through this process earlier and it was there at that point, but it's been gone since I was able to detect the audio devices.)

No reason for XP to be incompatible with DDR3. Also, no need to remove the extra RAM.

I didn't touch the RAM and it didn't cause any problems. XP32 can't utilize all four gigs of it, but the extra doesn't harm it in any way as far as I can tell. (It's actually the Home Edition, by the way, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter). I've gotten everything going in Vista and all of the most critical drivers in XP...except the stupid sound.

I think I'm a little more familiar with what's going on now, though. Running the kb888111 update installs "Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio" to System Devices. To get it to actually work, I have to either disable and re-enable it in the device manager, or I can run the kb888111 file again (which doesn't prompt or require a restart if it was already installed). I still can't get it to work automatically when the system boots up, though. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the UAA driver, uninstalling and reinstalling the working sound driver, but it all just won't kick in by itself when the computer turns on. The only time I've ever seen the UAA driver recognize the sound card automatically is when it's first installed and requires a reboot to work...when the computer starts up, the sound drivers are detected right away. But as soon as you restart again, they disappear as usual.

I feel like I'm so close to getting this to work...there must be some way to get the UAA Bus Driver to kick in without manually disabling and re-enabling it. That's the only thing missing.

Dragon - Could you be so kind to upload the drivers you are using to rapidshare in one rar/zip file or post links where you got the drivers? I am going to install XP 32-bit on mine and you seem to have most of the drivers worked out.

    Thx for the hard work!

    http://rapidshare.com/files/139131539/7811FX_XP32_Drivers.ace.html

That includes the chipset, nVidia, ethernet, wi-fi, and touchpad drivers (all of which I've installed successfully), as well as everything I've gotten so far for the sound (including a link to the site with the directions I used). I don't know if the graphics driver is the latest one or not...I just grabbed the first one I saw that included the 9800M GTS and was listed as compatible with XP.

If anyone tries to use the sound driver, be sure to post the results in here. Maybe it'll help someone figure out what the problem with it is. I mucked around with so much stuff in my previous failed attempts that I'm not even sure how it'll react to a fresh XP installation. I'd try it myself, but I've already done about six or seven collective OS installations over the past three days...my patience for it is running thin.

Thanks DragonRider, I'll be sure to add your package and give you rep. Are any of the drivers from the single XP32 list in the OP?

EDIT: Let me rephrase, do any of the single XP32 drivers listed in the OP need to be removed/replaced?

The chipset, wi-fi, and touchpad drivers I use are straight from the links in the OP. They all download and install correctly.

The ethernet I found myself. I mentioned it earlier in the thread, and you removed the faulty Realtek driver from the OP, but didn't add mine. Here's the link to it again: http://www.station-drivers.com/page/marvell.htm (Vista 32 drivers are in there too)

The nVidia driver I also found myself...the link in the OP points to the wrong place. I think I got it from here: http://laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/xp/175.76

The sound-related stuff is linked to in Syngensmyth's post at the top of page 9. The one in the OP should be for the right device, but it doesn't work on this computer for some reason. Not even after using UAA to detect the sound hardware. You might as well remove it for now.

I don't use the Intel Matrix things (they don't work for me, probably because I had to change my SATA setting to get the XP CD to work). The link to the second one still seems to be broken, though. The diskette one. I think you forgot to change it when you fixed the one right above it.

The Realtek Media Reader driver in the OP installs, but doesn't seem to do anything. The "Mass Storage Controller" in the device manager stays unknown. I think it's the wrong brand, like the old ethernet link was, but I don't have a replacement.

The nVidia link in the OP still goes to that Conexant site instead of the right one.
