It started about a week ago, horizontal lines randomly across the screen, it halfway reminded me of refresh rate problems. I was in VMware Workstation at the time testing a vm for work. At the time I thought it was just something to do with that and shut it down. Went to load Lich King on today and it's there almost all the time, randomly all over the screen. At first I thought it was just a diver issue. I updated the drivers, but started noticing it was doing it even when I was in the bios screen, at initial boot up, ect. So I packed it up and dropped it off at Best Buy for repair.
Seen a few other post with the same error, curious if those that have been repaired were due to a bad LCD, graphics chip or inverter.

There have been some people that had their video cable disconnect from the mobo. Yours might have only come out part of the way which explains the lines. But it still could be something else like what you said but I'd have checked that first if mine started doing that.
When your laptop comes back you might get a 1440x900 lcd screen if they replaced it because people have said that when they got theirs back it had a 1440x900 instead of the original 1920x1200. -
Yeah I saw a couple of people post that, kind of why I went to BB vs direct to Gateway and even mentioned it to them and was to if anything would be replaced it would be equal or better, so we will see. Thanks for the tip on the connector, did not think of that, if it ever happens again post repair I will check that out.

I had that problem it was the LCD , I also had the problem of Gateway installing the wrong screen.
-
Same problem here. Notice it happens on fairly dark screens with a few bright spots, that's when the lines show up the most.
Should I send it to Gateway or Bestbuy? I'd like to keep my 1920x1200 and my hard drives if possible. -
I had the same problem. Sent it to best buy, and they should be getting it back either later today, or tomorrow. (took about 2 weeks)
Since this is done by BB, I'm hoping they gave me the right screen. If not I'll hand it right back to them and get my screen. I'll let yall know how it goes once I get it back.
(Shipped from the Geek Squad location on the 18th) -

Sorry about that.
Everything is good!
Got it back, nothing bad happened to it. Got a new screen (with the correct res. might I add)
Only took 2 week, which is nice(well, 1 week and 6 days if you want to get technical)

And just to be clear, you took your 7811 to the Geek Squad in store or you shipped it off somewhere? I'd like mine back in time for winter break -
From what I know of, the hard drive wasn't touched. I got it back and it still had every single thing I had on it, and nothing added.
I took it to geek squad.
THEY shipped it out to their repair facility. -
I got a call last night from the GS at BB. They issued me a full refund (in store credit) on my laptop. He told me that either that meant it was too expensive to fix or the parts were going to take to long to get (over 30 days). Honestly I was a little disappointed/bummed , I really liked my 7811. Thought about getting a HP X18-1020US but not sold on it yet.
Glad to see you got yours back Deron. -
Here is a thread with a user solution to this problem. It's a loose lcd connection to the MB, should be easy to fix.
