I just got through following detailed/pictured instructions on how to disassemble by p-7811 fx. I needed to clean my fans. After putting everything back together, my power button isn't turning on my laptop. Help!

Take the media bar out again and make sure you fastened the connector properly, (at both sides) and that you didn't stick it in upside down by accident.

Heh I remember my first laptop disassembly couple years ago. Left the mouse pad, power button disconnected. I did not however loose any screws which is good.

What side connectors are you talking about? It looks like the one ribbon is the only connector unless you mean just the plastic hooks. I tried taking the ribbon out again just now. No luck yet

Ok, nothing has changed. The ribbon is definitely in there flush and the connectors are clicked back in. It's so weird. I don't think this should make a difference, but after reseating the media bar this morning, I am just plugging the power in to try and turn it on. No battery. Anyway, any more thoughts?

There is a small board in the corner that the power jack is on, which connects with the motherboard being locked onto a connector. Mine wouldn't boot if it wasn't screwed in on both sides of that connection.
Make sure ram is seated properly.

Thanks for the reply. Could you be a little more specific? What corner is the board in and where are the screws? Thanks

Check both ends of the ribbon cable for your power. If it came loose or was removed at one end, the other end could have unseated slightly as well.
Also, don't panic. What I mean really is just open it back up and look around slowly. Try to notice if anything is out of place. Use your detective skills or your chic magnet skills or whatever skills you have in there to detect something out of place or missing.
This is important, did you do the work with the power unplugged and the battery pulled out? Did you ground yourself first? Electrostatic Discharge can sneak up on you so you gotta be careful.
    Good luck

If you are at a loss you can go and see if maybe you didn't push the motherboard into the board in the corner. This is what clone is talking about. I remember i had to use a little force to get it to snap in, make sure its screwed in.

Did you ever fix this problem? The same thing happened to me on my 6860fx, except that Now the "arrow" button just to the right of the power button turns on the machine, and my power button still does not function.

Sounds like the ribbon the power board is not set right, or flipped over?

I checked both, but I'll check again... I wonder if I damaged the ribbon somehow? Do you know where I might be able to buy a replacement one if so?
