I got my P-7811FX about a week ago, and I love everything about it with the exception of one issue that prevents the battery from charging. When I let the system run off its battery for a while then plug the system's AC adapter back in and mouse over the little battery icon on the taskbar it lists the battery as being at "98%: plugged in, not charging." The only way to get the system to start charging again is through this tedious pattern of unplugging and replugging the battery and adapter/ uninstalling and reinstalling the battery driver in the device manager/ rebooting in a specific order. Any advice on how to fix this?

Sounds like it might be a defective power brick. These days, the power bricks need to supply some sort of "authentication signal" to the laptop to demostrate that the charger is of the proper type, otherwise the system will not allow charging. I believe Dell started this obnoxious trend.

You could take your unit back to BB and try the display unit charger to see if that solves the problem.

I found what I think is at least maybe a possible solution, LOL. I let my battery run all the way down to 92% and then it starting charging when I plugged the adapter back in. Maybe there's a charge threshold above which the battery doesn't even bother charging like 95% or something...I'll try just letting it reach 95%.

P.S. Thanks IRA I'll probably try that if I can't fix it.

If you got time, take it to Bestbuy to replace the power brick (ac adapter), if not they can stick one of those gadgets to check on the electricity running through it.

Apple's laptops have been like this for many years now: they start charging at 95% and stop at 99% (you never see 100% fully charged) in an obvious effort to keep from over-charging or damaging the battery. In other words I believe it's a feature not a fault.
