I have seen this maybe 2 or 3 times so far..

My temp is fine during gaming.. around 69-73 Celsius Max.
I usually keep HW Monitor running in the backgroud. A few times I noticed, when I close my lid to put it to sleep, when I open it .. my GPU MAx temp displayed in HW Monitor shows somewhere around 260+ celius.

Not sure if I should be concern about this. My theory is the GPU fan stopped before the system fully went to sleep and the software HW Monitor read the temp during these last few seconds.

    anyone noticed this? or advice?

Don't be concerned, 260C couldn't possibly be an accurate reading. I'm sure putting your computer to sleep either messes up HW Monitor or the temp sensors.

Definitely a monitoring problem. 260C is impossible.

    thanks all...

I thought it was faulty reading.. it would burn right through my keyboard..

that's one way of lighting up the keyboard :D

    anyway.. attached is the reading..

haha - this is funny 500 degrees F for your GPU, think anything would start melting or smelling funny?

Burning through would be an understatement. The battery would explode, your CPU would melt and your hard drive would deteriorate from the heat. In short, your laptop would explode.

Apart from the reading glitch, you have some nice temperatures. Are you using a cooler or simply use the laptop in a cold room?

Well if min CPU temp is 53F, then it must be a cold room. Also though I have found that HW Monitor displays bogus readings, although it does get them from somewhere legitimate because RM Clock displays the same readings (although every other temp monitor has higher readings for the CPU). I say bogus because I've seen the CPU temp be colder than the room temp.

HWMonitor gives accurate readings, except the CPU. Speedfan always reports a temperature 10C hotter that the 24C HWMonitor states.

I used a combination of a targus notebook stand (model AWE09US) and thermaltake External USB Notbook Fan (MobileFan II A1888.) I placed the thermatake USB fan directly behind the left side of the notebook where the fan intake for the GPU. It made a world of a difference; not to mention keeping me right hand cool during gaming (considering how much the heat that used to come out from the left side) I set the fan speed on max.

Does your laptop glow on the bottom like one of those cars with LED's mounted to the frame? I would suggest keeping a geiger counter near by and if you hair starts falling out in clumps then there may be a problem...... :)
