I bit and bought the GW 7811FX.. well after taking the x305 back. Running great so far, no lockups, and plays wow without issues. However, Does this screen look normal? or should I take this back and get another one? Don't really notice this unless its on a black screen. Could this get worse?![]()

Added an after rub pic. Will add another GW background pic for comparison after work tonight. The "rub" seems to have help'd, less the light sabre at the bottom. ;-) I get that on my NEC LCD too though.![]()

Added +14 hours after rub.

That does look pretty bad. This seems to be more and more common with new 7811FX owners. Some are saying that if you take your finger and lightly "wipe" at it, the ghosting usually disappears. It appears to be an issue with air in the glossy coating. It's your call on the return.
-
The bottom of my screen looks similar, where its slightly lighter along the bottom rim. All other parts of the screen are even.
-
Im starting to think Gateway might have rushed the 7811 a little...so many people are reporting problems, especially with the screens!
-
Yeap! Sounds like just a bad batch to me, as some aren't reporting any issues at all. Hopefully that's all it is. As with any new release, theres bound to be a few problem children.
-
Perhaps new FX owners should go home, unpack it, put on a black screen, and if any ghosting appears then they should return it immediately and keep doing that until you get a good one lol
-
jakamo what you describe is bleeding not ghosting, quite usual with lcds.
dont believe they will replace it, my screen has it too. -
I had the ghosting, rubbed the screen and it's gone
-
The line on the bottom of the screen is light bleeding and it is quite normal with LCD screens, especially on that area. Only the most exceptional LCD screens seem to be lacking at least a little bit of bleed.
The other stuff however is probably what I have. Its just a bit of air trapped under the polarized film. You can wipe it and try to shift the air around so its less noticeable, but even at its worst, it isnt very noticeable.
You would get a similair effect if you were to apply a screen protector and failed to place it on perfectly. Knowing that this is just an air bubble leads me to believe that no, it will not get worse over time.
It can be repaired, though I am not sure how. Maybe they place the device in a pressure chamber of sorts, no idea.
As far as returns go? Well...you might end up with a REAL defect and need to go through the process again. Plus it just might be a hassle to go through that. I am still considering it myself, but that is only because of me being rather OCD about such things.
In the end...do you really thing you will be staring at pure black screens on an angle?
If anything, the light bleed on the bottom is more annoying. Because it will show if it is dark enough and the image is dark enough. And the light bleed is likely on most machines anyway. -
Yes Solitary, I agree with you on the bleeding; I have had that problem with my old Dell E1705 and I really don't notice it much unless it went to the Windows XP screen saver (all black screen except for bouncing logo).
However, the trapped air concerns me. I have not come across that phenomenon with any of my old laptops (6 machines, 3 brands, 2 with glossy screens). I wonder if that could have been a result of production or during shipping.

And if any of you let me know where you got your 7811's on that thread, I'd appreciate it greatly. -
added the +14 hour after rub pic if anyone is interested.
No other issues..I'm so glad I took the x305 back LOL. (I did like it to though, but guess I'd like anything, upgrading my 8 year old home brew that still has PC133 hehe.
(And I'm glad I didnt buy the Alienware [even after getting our company on the EPP program..what a joke for a discount] .. so not worth it after getting my hands on this.. heck I'll buy 1080P TV..and a BD for this laptop. LOL.'z..Talk about bang for the buck. TY GW. -
Ahh yes, yet another satisfied FX customer. I tell ya, it's gonna be harder and harder for the boutique brands to stay in business with prices like these.
