The hard drive (200 GB Momentus 7200.2) that came as part of my P-7811 FX Gateway has gone bad recently and I have been trying to determine whether it is salvageable or not at this point as a data drive. (Since I replaced it as a primary with a solid state drive when the issues began.)

At the moment, I can't even get the drive to format, however, to start I actually didn't have many problems. A Windows update froze and was interrupted and it caused the drive to fail to boot-- none of the standard remedies worked, so I started the computer with a Unix Live CD and was able to pull all of my data off the drive without any issues. At that point, I began attempting to reinstall Windows (and eventually Ubuntu) with no real results-- I never got it to boot from the drive again, even after completely deleting all partitions and reformatting.

Once I got my new boot drive, I placed the drive into the secondary slot and was using it as a data drive when I started noticing corruption in some of the files. Since that point, it has rapidly gone down hill. I tried SeaTools when I was able to access the drive and it found no problems (initially, my latest attempt it failed all the test unfortunately), but I'm wondering if there is anything else I can try to salvage it and if anyone else has had these problems. I'm pretty sure the drive is dead, but I'm basically looking for confirmation before I toss it in the trash.
