I've had the 7811FX since November 2008 and I have been tweaking it constantly.
I used to overclock the GPU to 700/950/1850 and it would never lockup, shutdown or anything. (Even when the temperature went past 90 degrees Celsius!)
Recently, I tried to run some 3Dmark06 benchmarks and my display would turn off, forcing me to hard reboot with the power button. This happened with GPU at default clocks.
After installing a T9600, I wanted to run some benchmarks again, but the system kept locking up (default + overclocked GPU). The screen goes black, the laptop stays ON, but I have to hard reboot.
Here is a list of the things I did to try fixing the problem:
- Disassembling the whole laptop to clean any dust and applying ICD7 on the CPU, Northbridge Chipset, GPU, and GPU Ram Chips
 - Installing old and new nVidia drivers
 - Undervolting the CPU to achieve cooler temperatures (preventing TZS0 from spiking to 98 Celsius)
 - Disabling/removing nVidia PowerMizer

The laptop is always propped up 1-2 inches from the surface and plugged to AC adapter. BIOS is 9c.17.00 and max temperatures are TZS0/CPU 60*C, GPU 70*C

Have you tried installing my vbios mod? http://forum.notebookreview.com/gat...-solution-nvlddmkm-video-crash-p-7805u-5.html

Thank you for the suggestion, but isn't it counter intuitive to flash my Bios ROM with "lowered clocks" when I'm actually trying to overclock my rig?

The thing with OC'ng the system is eventually you will prematurely wear out the components. Sometimes a cleaing up of the tim etc can extend life a bit but you are tempting fate...................

I think you are right TANWare, I can't avoid the fact that the laptop is around 4 years old and has been through some rough times. As stated above, I already cleaned up and changed the TIM.
My last resort is to overclock by 5-17Mhz everyday until I get stable clock settings.
Thanks for chiming in guys, I won't be seeking anymore help, but if anyone wants to drop a word or two, go for it. -
You can change the 3d values to whatever you want with Nibitor, or simply OC with Nvidia tools in Windows. The other "throttle" values that I change usually help in stability. Might be worth a shot, but like TANWARE said, it might just be a case of age and wear.
