Recently my P-7811FX stalls when i first turn it on after it says Initializing Mouse, it just sits there for about 25 seconds or so before it boots and it never used to do this. Also when i resume from sleep by opening the screen, the computer seems to stall as well, and the HDD light does not go active until after the stall... The laptop is stock except i got a 250gb caviar black HDD instead of the old seagate one... I'm wondering if I have a HDD error that is delaying the boot, i guess I'll run diags on the drive and see what the deal is but I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this problem? thanks

I have also experienced this problem. The mouse initializes and the bios boot slows and takes about 30 secs to finally enter into the windows boot screen. I found a slight fix for this by flashing my bios to the .17 one released here in the forums http://forum.notebookreview.com/gateway-emachines/303626-official-gateway-78xx-series-fx-bios-9c-05-00-thru-9c-17-00-a.html

this resulted in the bios booting in about 15 secs apposed to 25-30 and your system may be slightly faster too.

So i try that and let me know if it works. btw have you or did you ever experience any camera pan stuttering in your games? jw

No haven't had the stuttering problem but I don't play a lot of games on it... I had already updated the bios on it, and it fixed the problem, but i want to know what caused it to start doing this as i still have extended warranty on it... Another thing that still annoys me though is that when you open the screen while its sleeping the HDD light doesn't go on for atleast 25 seconds even if you try and open an app right away, it never used to do this...

I'll even go as far as to say the machine is delaying those 25-30 seconds before it spins up the HDD or the DVD-Rom because i listened closely... Hhmm

Checked the Vista logs and came up with this error in there

The embedded controller (EC) did not respond within the specified timeout period. This may indicate that there is an error in the EC hardware or firmware or that the BIOS is accessing the EC incorrectly. You should check with your computer manufacturer for an upgraded BIOS. In some situations, this error may cause the computer to function incorrectly.

    Any further insight?

Hmm that's interesting. I googled it and its sounds like everyone's saying its a hardware problem. Something the bios cant find when boot/starting up and it eventually times out. Hunh. Ill have to look more into this. Reply back if you find anything.
