I've had my P-7811 for a couple years now without any problem. Recently it will randomly not recognize that the AC adapter is plugged in and will run off battery power even when it's plugged into the wall. Just when I think the battery is about to run out (or at some point before) it will recognize the power adapter and start charging. Does anyone have a similar problem? Anyone know how to fix it?

    Thank you.

Could it be a short in the cord? I had to buy a new adapter for my wife's Dell Inspiron because it had shorted out somewhere in the cord.

Well I don't think so because then it would it work at random points? If there was a short wouldn't it just not work at all? Am I wrong in assuming this?

Not necessarily. It would work, but only if the wire was resting or held in a certain position, such as where the short is. Kinda like holding the shorted spot together to make a connection with the wires. But that's just a suggestion. Does the wire move at all before it's finally recognized? If not, could be something with the MB or the DC connector. I'm not an expert on this area, however, I do know that the DC connector on the P-7811fx is on a separate board that connects to the motherboard.

Hmm, well it seems to be working now. I moved the chord around and couldn't replicate the problem. We'll see if it happens again.

    Thanks for the info

No problem. Hopefully it won't continue to happen, and if it does, it's just a short. Post again if you continue to have problems :)
