Juuuust got the laptop in my sig and I sure do love it, it's just that the fans pulsing all the time is really annoying. Will undervolting the 9800M GTS and CPU help at all? Should I bang my head against the wall?

Thanks for all your help! :)

There are many threads dedicated to this very issue.

1.) a note book cooler that will keep the temps down will help somewhat.
2.) Undervolt will help to keep thetemps down too, helping somewhat.
3.) Modded bios undervolting the GPU helps on the GPU's side.
4.) Bios 9c.17.00 helps some but 9c.20.00 runs higher temps cutting the pulsing down.
5.) ICD TIM again better cooling to keep temps down.

I am sure I've forgoten a few as I have the NC-2000 cooler, ICD and 9c.17.00 bios so no pulsing issues here.

Ah, I knew there must be.... forgive me.

Gonna try and undwrvolt the GPU, the CPU is already undervolted. Will also try bios, but what exactly is ICD TIM?

    ICD = Innovative Cooling Diamond

Its a type of thermal paste that seems to be one of the best on the market right now. From what we've seen its some good stuff and can be used on chips as well as larger gaps due to its structure.

I recommend keeping the .17 BIOS. The pulsing is a bit annoying, but its infinitely more agreeable than high temps IMO.

Okay. On .12, have tried .12, .10, and .20. GPU idle temps were in the mid-high 40s on ..17, now they're about 8-10 degrees higher.

Everyone so far has reported .20 to have a much higher idle temp. On .17 mine is the same as it was on .11 and .12 versions. .20 alows a higher temp on the GPU to lower the fan pulsing..........

On mine, it took about a minute and a half to get the fans to kick in.

Undervolted I've had temps as low as 34/29 on the processor and 42 on the GPU but that was with .17.

The deal with .20 is actually that there is no GPU fan whatsoever until you hit 80C. The fan turns off once the temp is below 70C. When the fan is off only the CPU fan cools the GPU. I found that without a laptop cooler using .20 that the idle temp in a 68F room was 50-55C, with a cooler it was 41-45C.

I got about 64C with .20, but no cooler. Just a stand.

Is it my imagination, or is this thing slowly being less loud? After 4 or 5 reboots and several hours of use it seems to be slightly less annoying.

Haha you're probably right. Making it a point to keep music on all the time so I don't hear it.
