Well there is all kinds of stuff on this forum about the negatives people experience or worry about, so I thought I'd let people know that page 84 of this month's PC Gamer says the 7811 is an Editor's Choice with a score of 92%.

The article points out that it tests close to units from Dell and Alien that cost two or three times as much. So, fellow 7811 owners, somebody who actually gets paid to write has supported your purchasing decision.

And I agree with him that the function key is in a crappy place!

I bet that less than 10% of 7811 owners post here, and the rest are out there enjoying their 7811. And people who mostly post in forums are the peeps who what to argue or looking for help.

Let this stand in memorial to my lovely upgraded 6831FX that I sold when the weather got warm. Selling you was my biggest mistake and alas Best Buy won't sell us Canadians your awesome scion. :(

I would happily take my chances with one if it were available. :(

Never really understood the reason for this kind of thread.

"Hey, here's some validation for a purchase you made of your own due diligence and need."

Some perspective maybe. If you read this board, you'll see mostly people who have had problems and it might be pretty tempting to not get this model or to turn it in and not try another if you have the least problem. People who don't have anything to complain about are much less likely to seek out a forum and post on it, so forums like this can get pretty dire and unbalanced sometimes.

I agree with the above post, I love my 7811 and wouldn't change a thing about it. My biggest complaint is that I open the DVD drive on accident all the time when I pick it up and move it.

This, and also only three USB ports which pretty much requires a hub. Maybe I was spoiled with my XPSes with their six.

It's not like a four port mini-hub doesn't solve the issues. Trust me, eSATA and a drive dock makes backing up a god****ed pleasure.

Not to mention, I used to say on the Dell section of notebookforums.com, I'd have gladly given up two USB ports for an eSATA port.

I would rather have eSATA instead of 2 more USB ports. eSATA is screaming fast with external drives, something that destroys USB transfer speeds. Besides, get a cheap 7 port USB hub, and you'll have enough USB ports than you'll ever need.

The greatest laptop ever, price to performance ratio off the chart. Retired my Dell XPS early to pick this rig up.

Sure the are some nuances the like function key placement, but I have adjusted and the numeric key pad rocks.

The addition of RAID is only icing on the cake.

This is coming from a research freak, who has a hard time "pulling the trigger"

Buy it now and never look back.

Well I love it, but I have a problem with it...but once it is fixed I won't care. I have to send it back to Gateway because the monitor is not coming on. But other than that I love it! The price cannot be beat!!!!
