I have a P-7811FX I'm getting ready to do a clean install of Windows 7 Pro on. From what I see from the few posts I could find, everything should go pretty smooth. I plan to do a clean install. Are there any additional problems or driver/software situations I should anticipate? The upgrade advisor reports no problems. Do I assume right that the vista drivers/software will probably work for any drivers that win7 can't find?

I just remembered one other thing, the DVD and Music key on the multimedia panel above the keyboard did not work. Its not that big a deal...but wanted them to be functionable anyway (even though I do not use them). Got them to work after doing a little searching on this forum...try this link to get started...

...if I remember right I had to get a driver from gateway site (although I don't think it was specific to this model) before I could use the registry tweaks.

Well, I updated to Win 7 Pro tonight doing a clean install. Thanks to your help, everything went smooth. The only device not installed was the mass storage controller for the card reader and the link you provided did the trick. The 1394 controller apparently installed ok via update. I haven't tried the music and DVD keys, but they can wait. The hardest part was getting all my other vista and XP computers to recognize this (Win 7) PC. Within a few minutes however, I was ready to go. So far I couldn't be happier so thanks again GDA13.

Apparently the issues many had regarding the 1394 controller has more to do with the resumption of windows from sleep or hibernation after having closed the lid and then opening the lid to resume windows. Try this and if you too have these sorts of issues then I and many others found that reverting to the "Legacy" controller (outlined in the thread I referred you to) eliminates these issues.

Just did the registry mods and now the multimedia keys work like a charm!
    Thanks again, GDA13.

I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 today and I got everything to work except for the multimedia keys.

In the ApplicationPath for button 1, I put in "C:\Windows\ehome\ehshell.exe"

    (and "c:\windows\ehome\ehshell.exe /directmedia:music", and "c:\windows\ehome\ehshell.exe /directmedia:discplayback" for buttons 2 and 3)

but Windows Media Center doesn't come up and the buttons don't appear to do anything. Is there something else I'm missing?

    thanks in advance,

    - Frank

I had to create keys 1, 2 and 3 per GDA13's link above.I wasn't sure about key #1 so I made the application path for keys #1 and 2 the same:
    "C:\program Files\winamp\winamp.exe"

    For #3 I used:
    "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe"

Worked for me. I'm not sure key #1 is even necessary and of course, you could use any player in lieu of winamp or WMP.
