With what kind of warranty does it come with? Because, i think its only at BB, for now, and I heard that BB just give their own warranty on some laptops and strips you from the manufacturer's oen, like with asus 2 years worldwide warranty.

Im going to France in 6 months for 6 months or a year, so that's why I would need a worldwide/international warranty.

I was interested in asus g50v-a1, because its a good gaming laptop, and asus got like the best warranty on the market, but, the p-7811FX is cheaper and a better gaming machine, so i would go for it if i was able to get a worldwide warranty, even if i had to pay for it, if it remained cheaper than the A1.

And please dont link me to http://www.gateway.com/about/legal/warranty.php?rdr=v632 I checked many of the pdfs, and its jus chinese to me, and more, I just didnt see anything about any worldwide warranty.

Of course, gateway may not be as good as dell, hp, asus, acer, etc. on coverage in other countries if it has an WW warranty, but, anyways, like i said, im only going to France for now.

    Thanks.

1 year from the manufacturer (Gateway), you pay shipping both to and from service center.

Optional 2/3 years from Best Buy, along with optional accidental damage protection (drops, spills, etc...). Carry-in coverage only on laptops.

Does that mean that the 1 year warranty is an international warranty as long as there's a service center in the country you are in at some point? Do you have a list of gateway service centers or know if there's one in Western Europe? I googled "gateway service center france" and found nothing.

Sorry for asking that much, but manufacturers always seem to try to make their websites in the likes of labyrinths just so you dont find the info you need, especially when dealing with warranties.

You can buy a 1-year european warranty from BB for 99 $. Gateway hasalso some european sales in UK, so I assume that in case of problems with your computer in Europe, you would have to send the laptop to UK for repairs.

check with www.squaretrade.com and you will save more money than buying from bestbuy or gateway. Use coupon code FIFTYOFF at checkout to get 50% off the warranty price, I'd definatley get warranty for P-7811FX. I've used Sony FW series and P-7811FX seems to be lacking when it comes to build quality of machine although it is very good laptop for the price.

I was looking at the Asus too, so for grins the other day I popped over to their forum and discovered there seems to be a keyboard issue that affects most if not all the machines shipped so far. It may not be something that would bother you but you probably ought to check it out. Basically not all keystrokes are registered, especially multiples like W+S+space.

I recall reading that you can call Gateway and they'll sell you an 2 yr extended warranty (that's in addition to the 1 yr warranty) for $189. Can anyone else confirm this? And also does the extended warranty cover shipping both ways to Gateway?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just realized the extended warranties are only available for purchases direct from Gateway and not from authorized retailers; unless they have changed this due to stopping all direct sales. Has anyone bought an extended warranty from Gateway after purchasing their laptop from BB and after July 27, 2008?
