I've been looking for a new laptop for a while and I really like the 7811fx , however they are not sold in the uk. However I have found a refurbed one for £750 (I need a low price to reduce import fees so I am happy paying for refurbs as I have never had problems with them).

What I am wondering is that the plug will be a US plug. Can I swap this with a uk laptop lead, or will I have to use an adaptor?

Also will the warranty be valid in the uk?

I'm wanting to upgrade the harddrives to two 360gb 7200rpms and am wondering which are comaptible? I'm under the impression that everything can be replaced apart from the gpu.

    Thanks for your help!
    Danny xx

Input for the adapter is 100-240v-2.0A-50-60Hz. Unless that's what comes out of your wall then you will need a convertor. As for the plug end it is standard USA 3 prong so you may need just an adapter to fit in the wall socket iffin yer already pumpin out the right type of juice. As far as HDDs pretty much any 2.5" SATA mobile HDD will work. I have 2 Seagate 500Gb in Raid-0 in one of my 7811s so up to 500 is fine as wine bro. :D

Don't forget customs charges - duty, VAT and admin fee.

OK thanks, i was under the impression that it could only handle up to 320gb harddrives so 500 is even better! I have also managed to find a place that sells a lot of UK leads for US laptops so I shall query them about the plugs for this laptop as they seem to sell a lot of gateway leads.

I have worked these out and it should all roughly come to about £1000 which is still cheaper than any model I have found in the uk with similar specs.

    Thanks for your help guys!

no no no, you don't need a converter/transformer....i have an american 7811fx, and i'm living in germany (same voltage as uk)...also, if you have any friends coming from the states, you're much better off having them bring it back...that way you can avoid customs...thats how i did it...
