Hey guys, Hoping you can help. For some reason over the last few days I've noticed my brightness control (Fn key + up/down) isn't working on my laptop. I haven't changed anything. Its starting to be annoying with full brightness screen at night.

If i unplug my computer, the screen still dims like it should. Plug it back in, well this time it didn't rebrighten. Settings don't appear in the power panel. Mobility panel doesn't have any settings either (windows key + x). checked bios, there is no setting for lcd there.

Here's what i've done to try to remedy this.
    Restart computer
reinstall offical gateway video card drivers (read something about that somewhere) from driver cd
    Checked Bios settings, nothing there.
system restore back one week. no change.

I'm thinking maybe it was a Windows Update? The only thing that has changed in the last weeks has been restarts for updates. one week back system restore didn't resolve that though.
Help? =) Tell me if you need more info

Are you using Windows 7? That would be your problem. Ok, never mind that, but I am mad at Microsoft for releasing 2 under par OSs in a row. I would try using RMClock to take over the power settings. With the plugged in/unplugged difference it is definitely related to your power settings.

if your going to do a system restore..then go back like a month to see what happens.(it can always be undone if it doesn't work)

im pretty sure it's your os causing the problems..
i have the same laptop with 3 different os versions on it and they all work as should be.

if you going to download a vga driver, then get it from intel. they have the new updated driver.
    you can try this driver.
Intel® Q43 Express Chipset Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows 7* and Windows Vista* (exe)

let me know if you get it working.

nothing wrong with the os. and it's far from sub par. usually user error accounts for more problems than the os itself. :)

Thanks for the advice so far. I was unable to go further back then a week of system restore, Or i would of. Only had 1week back. I have only 10gb set aside for the system restore feature.

Is that the proper intel thing i should download? I don't have the cpu or chipset specified in any of the req info. My computer again is the P7915-u FX. p8700 core 2 due 2.53 ghz cpu. not a I3/5/7. And i'm preeety sure my chipset is the Intel PM45 Express chipset.

Correct me if i'm wrong. I haven't tried that download yet though.
