I know the P-7808u came with the Q9000 and that the P-7805u doesn't support them, but what about the P-series laptops that were released after the 7808u? Gateway put in a new motherboard when I got my 7805u repaired and I'm wondering what the odds are that mine supports quads.

Completely unknown... with out knowing what gateway was actually doing to make quads not work in all FX computers except the 7808 i really cant even tell you what to look for to see. You could always buy a q9000 to see if it works, but i fear it would be a waste of money for you.

Is there any way I could check and see if my motherboard is a 7808 board? It came with 9C.20 if that means anything.

Honestly i dont know. Only about 2 7808 owners ever came through the boards, and we never really could figure out what was different about the motherboards.

But we also never had someone willing to investigate the issue that owned a 7808. So take our investigations with a grain of salt. I wish it was a more popular model so we could have gotten more answers.

But honestly with Unclewebbs Throttle Stop and an x9100 you are just about as well off.

But picture 3.0 GHz from a QX9300 or the Unlocked Q9100 ES's that are around............ If we could only know what the mod required is........ :(

Edit; I can tell you SiSandra reports my main board as revision B1. Also the P7802-c can run the QX9300.......

Edit 2; P79xx's I could see so far:
    P7901-h (canada)
    P79 WEJ0X.018 (Europe/Australia)
    P7906-a (Europe/Australia)

Yeah plus the Q9000 and Q9100 are much cheaper than the high end dual cores.

Sandra also reports my mainboard as being revision B1. Now the question is whether or not it says the same thing for the 7808.

Edit: Actually, the revision B1 is for chipset. For mainboard, Sandra reports the MPS version as 1.40 and the model as IMV. But of course it gets stuff wrong like maximum installable memory: 4GB.
