My friend's old laptop has a terribly dim backlight, and he keeps it even dimmer because he is afraid it will go out. I've heard that CCFL is much worse than LED backlights. Which backlight is it for the 1440x900 res screen? Is the 1920x1200 different? Should I always use my backlight on max brightness? I also looked into an auto dimmer, but apparently dimming a lot can hurt the backlight too.

I've had my 6860 for about 2 years now and I'd say it's been at max around 95% of the time the screen has been on. Haven't had any problems and it still looks fine.
