The reasons why I want to buy the P171X is because of the processor and the screen. (Mostly for work, but some game playing such as BioShock, UnrealTournament 4, etc).

I was wondering if anyone would know how much more power does the T8300 suck up vs the T5450? I heard that the new chips consume less power and run cooler but I don't know if it'll have a significant effect on the battery life.

Also, I read on forums that the higher resolution rate will slow games down. However the threads that I found were a year old and didn't include the 8800gts - I was wondering if the 8800gts would let it be playable on that resolution for those games listed above? I thought of asking in the gaming section of the forum, but unsure if it could be labeled as cross-posting.

Is there any other differences between the X and S edition? I kept on looking but didn't really see anything else.

I think those are the two differences between the P171X vs the P171S... the prices that I was quoted was $1,889.78 (1699.99 w/o tax&shipping) for the P171X FX and $1,623.97 (1,502.98 w/o tax&shipping) for the P171S FX from a different rep.

I can try to see if the reps that I spoke to will be willing to lower their prices, but if anyone could help me in getting a lower price, I would definitely appreciate it! :) Educators don't get paid highly well around here...

T8300 should run cooler and take less power than the T5450.

People only say running a wuxga is bad for gaming because you can't run it at native resolution therefore there will be some jagged lines. In my opinion it makes no difference and I'd prefer the higher resolution for normal everyday use. I can live with playing games at non native resolution and a couple jagged edges here and there without crying about it. It's really a matter of opinion, I can't live without wuxga.
