I am going to get the P172X FX and am wondering should I get the RAID option or no. Simple as that.

    Thanks,
    Ravi

You can set it up later if you want to.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure RAID 0 involves splitting the data and reading/writing to and from both hard drives simultaneously. This increases performance but if one hard drive crashes, the data on the other isn't recoverable because it only has about a half of each file. I'm thinking about getting the notebook and if I do I'm not getting RAID. I don't think the performance boost is worth risking the loss of all of my data. Besides, it's 7200 RPM anyway...

you can choose. some people have said that theirs did not come setup in raid, mine did. I do not know what the standard is. The performance boost is nice if you are doing something that involves a lot of reading and writing to the harddrive. if you are not you probably wont see the difference. In any case, you can get a 500 gig external drive for a back up for around 150 anyway...
