I have recently noticed that my computer has started to flicker between a blue screen (no signal) and the actual image when hooked up via HDMI to my 42" Vizio TV. It happens a few times and then (2-3 times w/30secs between) stops. All I do while hooked up to the big screen is surf the web or watch movies. It doesn't happen all the time. I am just curious if this is a sign of a bigger issue to come. The laptop is always hooked up to a cooling pad.

Just because its hooked to a cooler doesnt mean its cool. Have you checked your temps lately? You might have dust built up that is heating up your system.

Also have you recently updated your drivers? Some of the newer drivers are having an HDMI issue with our laptops so can cause problems like your facing.

I actually had the problem prior to upgrading the driver. That was one of the main reasons why I upgraded. Last night I saw a couple of lines of horizontal lines prior to it flashing off. I haven't checked the temperatures. How do I go about checking that? Should I not leave it hooked up to the LCD for long periods of time? I read that gaming on a external monitor puts a severe strain on the GPU. Does the same hold true for surfing and movie watching? This is really pissing me off because the computer is barely used.
